If Bashar Al-Assad Is Ousted, The Islamists Will Take Over Syria

By Theodore Shoebat

Those who think that the U.S should help the rebels in Syria oust out Bashar al-Assad, do not know anything about the Middle East. Within this region of the earth, people have been living under dictators for thousands of years. In a nation like Syria, as is most of the Near East, they are only two forms of dictatorship which can be implemented: first, Arab nationalism; second, Islamic fundamentalism.

Both are brutal, but the former is so because it wants to remain in power, prevent coups, and keep Islamism from taking over. The latter is also brutal, but for a different reason: Islamic fundamentalism wishes to implement massacres for the sake of a collectivist ideology, which calls to unite the world under one creed, Islam; one language, Arabic; and, in the future, one leader, the Mahdi or the Islamic messiah. This is a simple explanation as to why the West needs to not intervene in Arab nationalist governments.

Obama supporting the rebels in Egypt and Libya has not helped anybody but the Islamists; it has only opened a can of worms which will not go away unless new dictators, with Arab nationalist sentiments, retakes these nations and revives the old regimes. While certain people in the West think they are taking the righteous path by calling for US intervention in Syria, their wants will only advance Islamic fundamentalism, and in truth assist the movement which has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of American lives; and throughout its history, has caused the massacres of millions.

Senator John Mccain has called for U.S. support of the rebels, and that our nation needs “to establish a sanctuary so they can organize, so they can resist and so they can prevail”. It is ironic that Mccain is calling for such a hasty intervention upon Syria, when at the same time he has denounced, without hesitation, Michelle Bachmann for her warning of Islamic infiltration in the U.S. So much to help the cause of Syrian rebels, but not that of American’s protection? But, it turns out that Israel is not too concerned about the brutalities of Syria, as it is in an ousting of al-Assad.

Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu stated just this month that al-Assad would soon fall, but that he was more worried in a collapse of Syria’s current regime which would leave its chemical weaponry open to the hands of Islamists. He said that the need for Israel to strike “might arise if there’s a regime collapse, but not a regime change.” In fact, Israeli Defense Ministry official Amos Gilad said that “There are significant amounts of chemical weapons in Syria, and we have to be ready and prepared if the Syrian regime loses control of its chemical weapons arsenal,” and as well confirmed that “At the moment, they are maintaining control of it.”

To assist in the ousting of al-Assad would therefore only leave Syria’s chemical arsenal into the hands of those who want Sharia law to be implemented, and an Islamic universal empire (or Umma in the Arabic) to be established. And amongst the rebels in Syria, are these Islamic utopians themselves. Jeroen Oerlemans, a dutch photographer, alongside John Cantile of Britain, were kidnapped by Islamic fundamentalists in Syria who had joined the cause of the rebels. Both of the men were threatened with death if they did not convert to Islam, and while trying to escape they had both endured gunshot wounds. They were later released with the help of other rebels, but what they had seen should not go unignored.

“They all claimed they came from countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh and Chechnya,” said Oerlemans. “One of the black jihadists freaked out and shouted: ‘These are journalists and now they will see we are preparing an international jihad in this place.’” Another statement of Oerlemans should provoke the concern of the all readers:

“As soon as Assad has fallen, these fighters want to introduce Islamic law, Sharia, in Syria.”

These words should prove full well, that a collapse in al-Assad’s regime will only advance the Islamic fundamentalist cause, and thus leave another nation, with its weapons, open to be controlled by idealists who want to see nothing else but the Koran over our Bible, the minaret over our churches, and the Umma over our entire civilization. The Syrian National Council (SNC), the coalition rebel group against al-Assad, has requested from foreign powers heavy weaponry that would, in the words of SNC chief Abdel Basset Sayda, “stop tanks and jet fighters”. To give them these powerful weapons will be the same mistake the U.S. made when it gave the Taliban the arsenal it needed to defeat the Russians. In other words, a victory for the rebels will ultimately make Syria into another Afghanistan.

An Islamist Syria will only add another nation to the axis of evil which we have seen forming in front of our very eyes. Already we have an Islamic Iran, Pakistan, Somalia, North Sudan, Egypt, and others; Libya and Tunisia are already on their way; and as soon as American presence leaves Iraq and Afghanistan, these two nations will soon become a part of the axis.

In conclusion, what is needed to be done with Syria, is to let it do what it must: preclude a regime change which will only end in another Sharia ruled nation. The Near East has been commonly governed under dictatorships, from Ben-Hadad to Nebuchadnezzar, and to expect the Syrians to immediately accept the American form of government, which was configured just over two-hundred years ago, and reject the system which has been ongoing in the region for thousands of years, is a hope only existent in the minds of moderns. If the west intervenes, and helps in the coup, the consequences will naturally arise, and we will be yet again confronted with another Islamic country who wishes for our demise.
