Saudi King pushing for Blasphemy resolution at United Nations

If you want to know why the Muslim world pointed to the Innocence of Muslims video, here is Exhibit A. It was used as an excuse to push international bodies and national governments to criminalize speech.

Walid was actually able to trace back the origins of this particular effort soon after the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

Via the Jerusalem Post:

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on Saturday called on the UN to adopt a resolution condemning blasphemy, AFP reported.

“I demand a UN resolution that condemns any country or group that insults religions and prophets,” he reportedly said. “It is our duty and that of every Muslim to protect Islam and defend the prophets.”

The Saudi King is the latest Islamic leader to call for a ban on blasphemy following the release last month of the US-made Innocence of Muslims film, which triggered a wave of deadly anti-American violence across the Islamic world.

Again, we were led to believe that the reason the Obama administration kept pointing to the video in the weeks after the 9/11/12 attacks was to hide the fact that the security at the Benghazi consulate was so poor.

In light of what we now know about what Secretary of State Clinton told Charles Woods, the father of slain Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, we are left to conclude the Obama administration and the Saudi King didn’t just share common means but common ends.

Those common ends apparently include the suppression of speech.
