On May 5th, during an interview with House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer played a clip of Libyan president Muhammad al-Muqarayaf’s appearance on the same program from September 16, 2012. Muqarayaf, who said the 9/11 attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound in Benghazi was a terrorist attack has found his comments at the center of the Benghazi scandal because U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice blamed the anti-Muhammad video.

The narrative about the Libyan president that has been making the rounds is that he is a secular leader who was thrown under the bus by the Obama administration. Testimony from whistleblower Gregory Hicks – who testified he was “jumping up and down” in response to Mugarayaf’s comments on 9/16/12 – indicated that the reason why the FBI was not allowed to land in Benghazi and investigate the crime scene for 18 days was because of that betrayal, enunciated by Rice.
Now, Andrew Bostom has uncovered some extremely interesting facts about the Libyan president which seem to belie claims that he is a liberal secularist. In fact, according to Bostom’s findings, Muqarayaf would seem to fit the profile of someone who would have a big problem with that anti-Muhammad film being made.
