Snowden’s Reporter the Keynote Speaker at CAIR Banquet

Perhaps there is no scandal with stranger bedfellows and is more controversial than the NSA scandal, facilitated by Edward Snowden through the U.K. Guardian’s Glenn Greenwald. Liberals have sided with conservatives and vice versa on both sides of the issue. Debates rage about whether Snowden is a traitor or a patriot. Congress is to blame for much of the Snowden-is-a-patriot talk; it has been derelict in its duty to hold the Obama administration accountable on much of anything.

Those who view Snowden as a patriot and are willing to extend those views to the man responsible for providing the delivery system for NSA secrets revealed (Greenwald) should have a difficult time reconciling Greenwald’s scheduled appearance at a Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) event.

Via Daily Caller:

The Los Angeles chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations says that Greenwald will be the keynote speaker at its November 16 “Faith in Freedom” dinner in Anaheim, California.

The banquet is the first scheduled appearance in the United States for Greenwald, who lives in Brazil, since he used information provided by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden to disclose NSA electronic surveillance programs in a series of articles for the U.K.-based Guardian newspaper.

Whether CAIR has been identified as a domestic enemy of the U.S. matters little. As a Muslim Brotherhood front group, CAIR’s goals are clear to anyone who wishes to be honest about the group. Those who side with Snowden based on a belief that Russia is no longer an enemy of the U.S. should also have difficulty here. As an arm of the Brotherhood, CAIR seeks to ultimately help facilitate the destruction of the United States. Any ambiguity relative to Russia’s acceptance of Snowden should not be applied to CAIR or the Brotherhood.

USA Survival’s Cliff Kincaid points out that Fox News Channel’s Eric Bolling, who has historically been a figure that seems to understand the Islamic threat to the U.S., appears to be on the side of Snowden in the NSA scandal and has been more than a little gracious whenever he interviews Greenwald. Here is a video posted by Kincaid on the subject:

As the Daily Caller points out, Greenwald is the keynote speaker at the CAIR event and that none other than Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the first World Trade Center attack in 1993 and follower of the Blind Sheikh, will also be one of the group’s three speakers.

What the NSA scandal needs much more of is clearer lines of distinction. Again, Congress’ ineptitude when it comes to holding the Obama administration accountable is responsible for much of the pro-Snowden sentiment. For example, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) is an establishment Republican who has targeted conservative Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) while also being unequivocal in his belief that Snowden is a traitor who should be prosecuted. King is part of a Congress that continues to allow Obama to get away with far more than he should. While misplaced, when people see an inept Congress circumvented by someone like Snowden, the lines can blur.

There is something else Congress has proven inept at – identifying Muslim Brotherhood groups in the U.S. for what they are. This failure allows people like Greenwald to become the keynote speaker at a CAIR event without any significant backlash.
