Barack, Uncle Omar, Malik and Implausible Deniability

Back in 2011, days after the arrest of Onyango (Omar) Obama for drunk driving, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked by a reporter if the President “was aware” that his uncle was in the U.S. illegally. Carney did not answer the question (red flag). His response was quite lawyerly, which likely meant he did know the answer to the question and that answering it either truthfully or untruthfully would have each posed different problems.

Uncle Omar Obama: Barack knew.

Uncle Omar Obama: Barack knew.

Instead of saying yes or no, Carney said:

“He became aware of this story when I walked into his office and among other subjects, mentioned it to him, and it was new to him on Monday.”

So, what was “new” to the President on Monday, that his uncle was in the U.S. illegally, that he was arrested for drunk driving, or both?

Perhaps we have our answer, courtesy of news this week that Barack Obama stayed with his uncle Omar while attending Harvard. This leads us to another exchange, this time between Carney and reporter Ed Henry. In a response to Henry, Carney concedes that the president did stay with his uncle for a period, as a result of Omar divulging this information under (sworn?) testimony at his recent immigration hearing, according to the Boston Globe.

Based on this news, it can be reasonably concluded that the answer to the reporter’s question from 2011 was yes, that Barack knew his uncle was in the country illegally. This would help to explain Carney’s lawyerly answer. Based on Carney’s response to Henry’s question, no one had asked Barack if he’d had contact with his uncle. Administration officials who said he hadn’t, got their evidence from the president’s autobiography, which may have actually been penned by Bill Ayers (if you can’t trust an unrepentant terrorist, who can you trust?).

Here is Carney’s exchange with Henry:

Earlier this week, we reported on another potential problem resulting from Omar’s testimony. In it, he was asked how many of his relatives were in the U.S. He neglected to identify or mention that his other nephew – Malik Obama – has been a permanent U.S. resident since 1985.

Malik and Barack hug in the Oval Office.

Malik and Barack hug in the Oval Office.

Malik works as the Executive Secretary of the Islamic Da’wa Organization (IDO), which is an arm of Omar al-Bashir’s Sudanese government. Al-Bashir is a mass murderer wanted by the ICC and Sudan is listed by the U.S. State Department as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. Is this why Omar failed to mention him in his testimony?

Moreover, if Barack was playing dumb (lying) about Omar, what are the odds he’s doing the same with regard to Malik?
