If You Neglect The Persecuted, You Neglect Christ

By Theodore Shoebat

Syrian Christian refugees in Jordan have tried receiving asylum in Western countries only to be rejected. In the words of one Christian refugee:

Everyone sold whatever they owned in Syria in order to get here, so that we could apply for visas at an embassy. We were all surprised to be rejected on the basis that there was no reason for us to go to Europe. Their reasons were all false – nothing correct in them.

Another fleeing Christian said that Western nations “were supposed to support us, and they were supposed to facilitate our immigration process as Christians, and I’m very sad that they haven’t.”

70 Syrian Christian families are taking refuge in an Assyrian church in the Jordan capital of Amman, sleeping in halls and other extra rooms. Instead of Christmas being a day of joy, it was instead a day of melancholy.

One Christian expressed himself as such: “I can’t feel happy about Christmas while our country is bleeding”.

Another one somberly said: “We are suffering a lot here. Our only celebration today was inside a church to pray to God to restore security and peace in Syria.”

These are the people who we want to help and rescue. But, we cannot expand into nations like Syria without people like you, the reader, donating and saving lives. This is the era, this is the time, this is the epoch, in which the apex of Christian suffering will arise, and the earth will become but an ocean of saintly blood which, like Abel, will scream to the highest heaven, demanding justice.

And in the Day of Judgement, what deeds will you recount to merit your entry into Paradise? What noble actions would you have done to evidence your faith in Christ? As St. James says, “shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” (James 2:18) We must help the persecuted, it is commanded of us by Christ in Matthew 25 in which the Savior of the world identifies Himself with His imprisoned, hungry, thirsty, naked, and oppressed sheep. This is why Christ declared to St. Paul, who at the time was still a persecutor:

Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? (Acts 9:4)

If you neglect the persecuted, you are neglecting Christ; if you help the persecuted, You are, like Abraham, assisting with the utmost of hospitality toward Christ, being like Mary Magdalen who perfumed the Lord’s feet. So I tell you now, give and you will be saving Christian lives, the most cherished saints of God.
