Russian lawmakers want to revive a bill banning the sale of all low alcohol energy drinks in Russia, after has voiced his support for a ban on alcoholic energy drinks in Russia. Their active enthusiasm came after Putin said to Russia’s Lower House lawmakers:
My position on the issue is most close to yours. I would not like it to sound as if we are going to ban everything in Russia starting tomorrow, but I would take more resolute action than before
Forty State Duma deputies led by Nikolai Levichev of the Fair Russia caucus have prepared to make amendments on the bill that will allow production of low alcohol energy drinks, but not the sale of them within Russia.
Sponsors of the bill are hoping that other members of the Customs Union would also enact measures banning low alcoholic energy drinks.
Aleksandr Korsunov, head of the Russian Healthy Choice public movement, blamed the alcohol lobby in the parliament for the delay in fully dealing with issue on these beverages, and affirmed that as soon as the bill is submitted to the Duma (the Russian government council), that he and his organization will be fully supporting the ban with rallies and other processions and assemblies.
The reason for the ban has been stated to be in regards to health, as they are considered to be “extremely harmful to the population.”
