The sinister nature of ISIS cannot be explained by a scientific lens, it can only be explained through a spiritual lens. Just look at a recent UN report that just came out:

the systematic killing of children… including several cases of mass executions of boys, as well as reports of beheadings, crucifixions of children and burying children alive.

Muslims in Iraq, all part of ISIS, put men, women and children in holes and buried them alive. The victims were Yazidis. One survivor, named Ali, remembered:

We did not understand. Then they started to put people in those holes, those people were alive… After a while we heard gunfire. I can’t forget that scene. Women, children, crying for help. We had to run for our lives, there was nothing to be done for them.

Dawud Hassan, another witness, lamented and recounted the horror:

They put women and children under the ground. They were alive. I still hear their screams. They were trying to keep their heads up to keep breathing… Iraq is finished for me. We had houses, shops, they all burnt our things. We have nothing. We want to cross to Turkey but the peshmerga is not letting us. We will not stay there, we want to go to Europe.

All of this horror reminds of what the Japanese did in Nanking, and to illustrate this here is a scene from an excellent film called, City of Life and Death, in which the Japanese committed massacres reminiscent to Muslim atrocities:
