Russian Christian Man Is Arrested And Faces Jail Time For ‘Hate Crimes’ For Writing Poem Calling Atheists ‘Despicable’ And Hoping For A Return Of The Inquisition

A Russian orthodox Christian man was arrested and is facing possible jail time under a hate crimes law in which he called atheists ‘despicable’ and hoped for a return of the Holy Inquisition according to a recent report:

A Russian poet is facing criminal prosecution for hate speech after calling atheists ‘despicable’ in a poem published online, and inciting violence against the group.

Amateur poet Maksim Drozdov, of Russia’s southern Krasnodar Region, said he hoped for a return to the Holy Inquisition – the medieval Catholic practice associated with the torture of heretics – in poems published on social media in May, that have since been removed.

Drozdov’s defence lawyer Aleksy Avanesyan said Drozdov, who was charged earlier this month, faces charges under article 282 of the Russian Criminal Code, which prohibits disseminating hatred, strife or insulting the dignity of representatives of any social group, according to Newsline.

In a statement on Wednesday, the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee – Russia’s main federal investigating authority – said: ‘According to investigators, in May this year the man posted a poem on a social-media network that was extreme in its content.

‘Linguistic research concluded that the published text contained some negative statements about a group of citizens who are united in their attitude to religion, and it calls for hostile action towards these citizens.’

Drozdov had told investigators that his poem was not intended as an insult to anyone, only as a work of satire, according to Avanesyan. (source)

I just have a couple thoughts thinking about this situation. My first thought is that there are very few actual ”Atheists” in this world, even Russia. There are many people who are angry with God, partly out of ignorance but sometimes also their own personal malignity. There are also people who claim to believe in God, but live as if they do not.

From what I saw of Russia, and atheists, and russian atheists, is that it is a residual effect of militant atheism from the God hating Bolsheviks, to teach people a life of nothing but matter in motion, materialism, one’s being a parenthesis between nothing before birth and nothing after death. People are recovering from that, but it will take time, and mistrust of the official ROC comes from well before the Bolshevik Revolution. That being said, Pravoslaviye is in their DNA.

This ‘Poet’ is uneducated, and is doing his alleged faith a dis-service, and I believe that what is happening to him is in fact right and just. I believe Orthodoxy should be the faith of Russia, but it doesn’t spread even in it’s Nikonian form by violence to non-Christians.

Why is it that only Russia is building these beautiful churches? As an American it makes my face burn with shame. You were right. One does not need to understand Russian. To see the dedication of the architects, engineers, craftsmen and artists was truly uplifting. It makes me wish I could understand more Russian. For now, I will have to say spasibo lapochka. You made my day.

It once was the same here in America Gran. One only has to look at the old flagship Anglo-Catholic churches from the Oxford movement to see what was once here.

Sadly most have fallen into the decline of ECUSA and it’s modern Iconoclasm.

Russians believe “Beauty will save the World” the beauty of the Orthodox Liturgy. See we are saved in partaking of it in it’s whole completeness ending in partaking of the holy mysteries(eucharist).

When I went back at Christmas I was knocked over at the change from the nasty nineties. Did you know that they’er building 3 new churches a day on average for the last 20 years

I’m blown away by the craftsmanship, and the church in the vid only took 3 years to complete.

how on earth did they get a very fine Russian Orthodox Prosessional cross is beyond me ?.. I asked ,and one person on the flower guild said it was donated. Why we don’t even get objects like this in Russia..They were destroyed melted down.. or sold off like I think this one was.
As a Russian my heart goes out to you Anglicans. this is what was thrown in the trash ben in the 70s when ECUSA fallowed Vat 2 iconoclasm.

The man evinced in his poem that he wanted a ‘return’ to the Inquisition, which is first of all was or is not a Russian Orthodox institution… But it seems that all Christians get slammed with the ‘Black Legend’ about it. Defending this guy is not the way to go, at all, to win over people who already distrust the official Church even though they have a latent Orthodoxy in their very bones, like DNA, as I used that analogy to describe it earlier.
