Trump now wants the US military to have French style marching parades

By Theodore Shoebat

Trump now wants the US military to have French style marching parades. I wonder if this is a strategy to boost military enthusiasm? According to a report from CNN:

President Donald Trump has asked for a military parade and the Pentagon is reviewing potential dates, Pentagon spokesman Charlie Summers said Tuesday.

The spokesman described the planning process as being in its “infancy.”
In response to the news, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that Trump had asked the Defense Department to “explore” the idea.
“President Trump is incredibly supportive of America’s great servicemembers who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe. He has asked the Department of Defense to explore a celebration at which all Americans can show their appreciation,” Sanders said.
“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France,” a military official told the paper. “This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.”
Trump’s meeting with senior military leaders last month included Vice President Mike Pence, White House chief of staff John Kelly, Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Joseph Dunford.
Trump was French President Emmanuel Macron’s guest on Bastille Day last year, and later called the French military parade he witnessed “one of the greatest parades” he had ever seen.
He said last September in a conversation with Macron that when he came back from France he wanted a military parade on the Fourth of July in Washington.
Trump’s call for a military parade might be hitting a few snags. The Post said shipping tanks and military hardware into Washington could cost millions of dollars, and that military officials said they were unsure how to pay for it.
After the Gulf War in 1991, the US put on a victory celebration replete with servicemembers and military gear.
Outside of France, authoritarian nations the world over have made massive displays of military power a mainstay of their public celebrations.
The news of Trump’s call for a military parade in the US comes as North Korea plans to show off dozens of long-range missiles during a February 8 parade, sources with deep knowledge of North Korea’s intentions told CNN last week.
The parade is expected to include dozens of intercontinental-range Hwasong-15 missiles, which the North Koreans test-fired for the first time in late November, the sources said.
The display of “hundreds” of missiles and rockets would be an attempt “to scare the hell out of the Americans,” one of the sources said.

I just don’t see how military displays…whether they are authoritarian regimes or republics are a precursor to something. America has been involved in things called Military Tattoos all over the world. The USMC Military band and rifle drill displays are often seen at joint celebrations.

West Point graduating ceremonies are also a display of might and firepower. The Blue Angels are displays of flying precision. Airshows and weapon sale symposiums are also such displays.

Great pride and honor of the military which then translates to patriotism is not a bad thing. Being in the military in fact strengthened my Catholic faith and ethics. Discipline in faithful worship and keeping faithful to the Sacraments are my personal achievements while serving when being wayward and morally apathetic could have been easier.

Patriotism can be abused to become nationalistic which could then move towards the alt-right but to blanketly state that all military displays is somewhat despotic is highly myopic and disrespectful of those who served honorably.

Perhaps the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier and at funerals of fallen warriors should also be judged in the same light since these too entail some sort of military rites and displays.

Finally, to narrowly say that such displays are despotic is I’m afraid a little disrespectful and ignorant.

    Sincerely,

    Capt. (RET) Raphael SEBASTIAN

Thank you for your service, brother Capt.(RET) Raphael Sebastian. I pray the Rosary for our military personnel who are serving and risking their lives every day who fight to keep this nation safe.

God bless these Great United States of America.

Thank you. Indeed, we must pray always for all those whom we care for and for those who hate us.

I remember back in 1991 we had a parade down Pennsylvania Ave to mark the end of the Gulf War. This commmeration was ordered by President Bush.

There was so much of peep from those who think that parades are a precursor to despotism.

I’ve always wanted to see a parade. A big powerful one full of the most fierce battle armaments. An honorable one, full of those who serve in the present and those who’ve served in the past. It’s time to put on a show and to thank what the very few do for the very many.

As an outsider looking in, I see Trump’s dismay that some people will not stand to attention or put their hands over their hearts when the national anthem is played.
I wonder if this is another way for Trump to raise national pride in their country.
I hope it is and I hope it works.
Perhaps not quite the context, but true nevertheless. Mark 3.

America is very divided… One side believes that there are no genders and that men are all rapists yet they should be allowed in public women’s restrooms..you cant fix this kind of evil all you can do is kill it because when you deny simple gender science you can’t be reasoned or negotiated with … Maybe America needs a good civil war because if we don’t these lunatics will take over as there is not going to be anyone to stop them next time a liberal gets into the oval office… If there is no justice and arrests for all the illegal spying America is done and it deserves to be

Has anyone thought also of the effect it will have on a fat little despot in the East who thinks to frighten America with their own display of military might? I think he doesn’t really have a clue to our military power and this may notify him that he couldn’t have enough missiles to take out a country the size of ours. We also have lost the past patriotic fervor we one had on the 4 of July; comercicom fireworks just aren’t the same. They are passive.
