In a curious story out of northern Texas, a woman was permanently banned from a local Wal-Mart after she was caught drunk driving in a motorized shopping cart for three hours while drinking wine out of a Pringles chip can according to a report:
A call to police on Friday morning led to an interesting discovery but no arrests.
According to the Wichita Falls Police Department, officers responded to a call about a woman driving around a parking lot while drinking wine from a Pringles can. Around 9 a.m. police arrived to the Walmart on Central Freeway for the call.
Walmart employees told police a woman had been riding around the parking lot since about 6:30 a.m. in an electric shopping cart. They also told police she was drinking wine out of a Pringles can.
Employees requested she be barred from the store. Police were able to locate the woman at a nearby restaurant and barred her from the Walmart. No arrests were made. (source, source)
This is not the first time that incidents such as this have happened, such as the 2013 case of a man in Ohio who got drunk on “Milwaukee’s Best” beer and was erratically driving his cart around a Wal-Mart, including into a restroom.
There was in November 2018 the case of a man in Kentucky who got drunk, and then drove around Wal-Mart “erratically” giving people the middle finger and calling them the devil and where he lost his shoe during the excursion before police apprehended him:
A man believed to be intoxicated was arrested Wednesday night at Walmart in Elizabethtown after reportedly joyriding through the store on a motorized shopping cart, insulting customers and flipping the bird, according to The News-Enterprise.
The newspaper says Elizabethtown police arrested 28-year-old Mathew Lee Carbaugh, of Clarkson, after spotting him on the motorized scooter designed for handicap customers at 8:30 p.m. The citation said Carbaugh was “being very loud” and initially ignored the officer’s instruction to stop.
Carbaugh told the officer he was riding around the store “for his pleasure.” In response to an officer’s question, Carbaugh said he was not handicap.
Store employees told police that in addition to repeatedly making a vulgar hand gesture, he was yelling at customers, calling them the devil.
Police detected an odor of alcohol on Carbaugh’s breath and the report says he had glassy eyes and his speech was slurred. He acknowledged having two alcoholic drinks at a nearby restaurant before walking to the store, the police report says. Somewhere inside the store, he lost a shoe, police said.
The newspaper reports Carbaugh was charged with operating a non-motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and second-degree disorderly conduct.
He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center. Carbaugh is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Hardin District Court. (source, source)

Then there was the woman who got drunk and high on drugs and drove through the store, where she made her own “surf and turf” meal of shrimp, chicken, and cinnamon rolls before being apprehended and arrested:
A Florida woman faces theft and drug paraphernalia charges after driving a motorized shopping cart through Walmart while eating and drinking items from the store.
Josseleen Lopez, 25, allegedly shot up meth and then exhibited odd behavior at a Walmart in Lecanto. She had a half empty bottle of wine in her cart and ate sushi, mini muffins, cinnamon rolls, rotisserie chicken, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office responded to a call from Walmart on Dec. 22 that Lopez was being held after consuming $32.36 worth of food and wine inside the store.
Deputies found three empty syringes in her possession after arresting Lopez. She told detectives that she had used the syringes earlier to inject crystal meth.
Lopez, who said she was homeless, told a deputy that “she was hungry and did not want to take any of the items outside of the store, but did consume everything she could while inside the store. She further states that she knew what she was doing was wrong, however did it anyway.” (source, source)
There was also the 2013 case of a man who was already drunk and, in his desire to get more alcohol, “erratically” drove a Wal-Mart shopping cart to the beer section, where he knocked multiple items over and was eventually arrested on charges of a DUI:
A man riding a motorized Walmart shopping cart has been charged with DUI this week in Florida.
The bizarre incident took place in Brooksville, Florida last weekend and according to reports resulted in a man being charged with both felony retail theft and disorderly intoxication.
Local man, Timothy Carr, was seen driving around a Walmart store recklessly, according to reports, and even drove to the alcohol section of the store to pick up some alcoholic beverages.
Carr took some alcoholic drinks from the shelf and opened one and began drinking. He then apparently drove the vehicle recklessly around the store, bashing into the shelves, knocking numerous other items off onto the floor, according to witnesses.
Carr has been arrested for retail theft before in the past, and this is in fact his third such offense. Because of the number of offenses, his charge has now been escalated to a felony crime, and he could even face jail time.
Police say Carr, a transient, was spotted around 9 p.m. local time on Sunday drunk and behind the wheel of a motorized shopping cart, according to WFLA.
Carr allegedly told police he was a transient, and that he did not have money to pay for the alcohol. (source, source)
All cultures have their own issues and unique problems that give a strong indication that a certain event likely took place in a certain area. In the USA, two near guarantees of those are strange things with people from or in Florida, which has given rise to the infamous term “Florida Man,” or anything that involves disorderly conduct or disordered behavior in a Wal-Mart store.
Truly, such news stories are without question made almost exclusively in the USA.
