When Barack Obama was running for President in 2008, he promised to identify the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turks as “genocide”. Since being elected, he has broken that promise each time the day of remembrance – April 24th – has come along. Today was no exception.
Even Kim Kardashian, who delivered this message in 2012, has more sense:
PLEASE CONSIDER A ONE-TIME OR MONTHLY DONATION TO RESCUE CHRISTIANS
Of course, the politics of Obama’s non-decision should not play into this but do. As a fellow member country in NATO, Turkey is quite erroneously considered an ally. Imagine the outrage if Germany denied the Jewish holocaust. NATO would vehemently denounce Germany. With Turkey, Erdogan is allowed to. What’s worse in terms of present day is that America’s alliance with Turkey is enabling genocide right now in places like Syria.
If very credible claims – relayed earlier this month by Shoebat.com – about the frustration level of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan are correct, President Barack Obama could push Erdogan over the edge by identifying Turkey’s slaughter of more than one million Armenian Christians as “genocide”. Instead, as CNN’s Jake Tapper is reporting, Obama is going to go back on his word for the sixth year in a row and has decided he would rather not frustrate Erdogan.
For the sixth year in a row, President Barack Obama has broken his promise to the Armenian community, made when seeking their votes as a senator and a presidential candidate, to use the word “genocide” to describe the massacre of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire a century ago. He did this in deference to the government of Turkey, which – historical revisionism aside – the Obama administration regards as a more crucial ally.
“It’s a sad spectacle to see our President, who came into office having promised to recognize the Armenian Genocide, reduced to enforcing a foreign government’s gag-rule on what our country can say about a genocide so very thoroughly documented in our own nation’s archives,” Armenian National Committee of America executive director Aram Hamparian said in a statement.
According to reputable journalist Seymour Hersh, Erdogan has been let down by both the Obama administration and the Benghazi attacks, in a big way. Up until that time, then CIA Director David Petraeus was running an operation that sent weapons to Syrian jihadists to help overthrow Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, whic Erdogan desperately wants. The August 2013 chemical attack in Syria was allegedly a set up to get Obama to use airstrikes to remove Assad as Erdogan smoked cigarettes and threw dinner plates.
Here is what Obama said in 2008, before he became President:
“America deserves a leader who speaks truthfully about the Armenian Genocide and responds forcefully to all genocides.”
Today, while large scale genocide is taking place in Syria – some even Armenian Christians – Turkey and the U.S. are playing word games while the world is at the dawn of a new holocaust in that region.
Denial is a deadly, deadly thing.
Even Kim Kardashian, who is of Armenian heritage, has more sense. It’d be great to see her denounce the President but not likely to happen.
