A Muslim teenager murdered his Christian teacher with savage hatred. The teacher, named Ashraf Alahm Atef Hanna, who taught English, caught the student smoking in his class. The student disrespectfully cursed the teacher in front of the class, and Ashraf, acting within school guidelines, struck the student. After he was hit, the student angrily left the classroom, only to return to campus with his whole family from his neighborhood, which is notorious for being filled with Muslim fundamentalist.
They confronted Ashraf who then fled. The Muslim family pursued after him, and when they caught him, they brutally beat him, and then shot him in the head, and died in the hospital on April 8th.
Mina Thabet, spokesman and founding member of the Maspero Youth Union, said this on the violent atmosphere against Christians in Egypt:
They hate everyone different from them. The hate speech is responsible for the majority of sectarian violence and the majority of killings in Egypt.
A day after Ashraf’s death, Muslim gunmen charged into a Coptic-owned electric supply store in the Al-Matariyyah area of Cairo, and opened fire, severely injuring two brothers.
On April 7th, a Muslim came to the Virgin Mary Church in Mansheet Nasr and began to pour gasoline in one of the church buildings. The Christians drove him out, but he returned with an “unspecified weapon”, and seriously injured three people.
the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. (John 16:2)
