Khamenei has already chosen his successors in case he is killed or toppled by Israel and the United States, as we read in Haaretz:
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has named successors for himself and key positions within the military amid ongoing tensions with the United States and domestic turmoil, according to a new report.
Citing close to a dozen high-placed sources within Iran, the New York Times reported on Sunday that Ali Larijani – the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council who has risen to prominence since the war with Israel in June 2025 – is on the shortlist to manage the country in the event that Khamenei’s or other top officials die.
According to the report, the 86-year-old Khamenei has not only named three possible successors for himself, but has also chosen four successors for all the leadership roles within the government and military that he is responsible for. Additionally, he has instructed high-ranking officials to follow suit.
If the Khamenei government is overthrown, Iran will become aligned with the United States, and Turkey will deepen security ties even more with Iran. Only in this case, Turkey will be doing so with the okay of the United States, since now Iran will be a partner of the US against the Russians and will thus be enabled to become powerful with Turkey under the eyes of the US. Iran-Turkish axis against Israel will only get stronger, and it will become worse for Israel.
