According to reports leaked to Axios, Trump got “pissed off” at Netanyahu for demanding that the US not give F35s to Turkey in a Fox News interview. According to the reports, Trump declared that Netanyahu had no right to tell the US what to do. As we read in TRT World:
US President Donald Trump was angered by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s public criticism of a proposed US sale of F-35 fighter jets to Türkiye, according to an Axios report published on Thursday, in the latest sign of strains between the two allies.
Citing two White House officials, Axios reported that Trump was “pissed off” after Netanyahu criticised the potential sale during a Fox News interview shortly before the US president travelled to Ankara for the NATO summit on July 7-8.
According to one official, Trump believed Netanyahu had “no right” to publicly intervene in the proposed arms deal, while another said the remarks further aggravated already growing tensions between the two leaders.
The report follows Trump’s recent signals that Washington is prepared to restore defence ties with Türkiye, including lifting sanctions imposed over Ankara’s purchase of the Russian S-400 air defence system and reopening discussions on F-35 fighter jets.
If the US renters Turkey back to the F35 program it will signal two things: (1) The further decline and the inevitable death of the Israel lobby and (2) the end of the US’s policy of making sure Israel has the military edge over its neighbors. The Israel lobby has been pushing the US not to accept Turkey back into the F35 program; if the US does the opposite it will further indicate how the lobby is losing its grip. It is official American foreign policy to guarantee Israel’s military superiority over its neighbors; hence why Israel is the only country in the Middle East with F35s. This policy is known as “Qualitative Military Edge” . If Turkey is allowed to have F35s, it will spell the end of this policy. Ultimately, Israel is doomed.
