The Baltic Sea is a major point of contention between NATO and Russia, with the former working to squeeze out the latter from the maritime territory. With Sweden and Finland now in NATO, the Alliance has more of the Baltic Sea under its control. In the midst of all of this, the Europeans are pursuing more independence in regards to military strength and war technology. In other words, the inevitably of a European conflict is becoming clearer:
