The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the EU cannot rule out sending troops into Ukraine, as we read in Izvestia:
The possibility of European countries sending troops to Ukraine cannot be ruled out. This was stated to journalists on Sunday, December 1, by the new head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas.
“Until today, the discussion was about which countries are ready to send soldiers to Ukraine and which are not. I believe that nothing can be ruled out and a certain strategic ambiguity [should] be maintained in this matter,” the Italian news agency ANSA quotes her as saying .
Kallas also suggested that if there was a ceasefire, Europe could “send in peacekeeping forces” to monitor its implementation. However, the final decision rests with Kiev.
Earlier, on November 28, the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Jacek Severa, said on Radio Zet that sending NATO troops to Ukraine at this stage of the conflict would be the wrong decision.
On the same day, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that he did not consider it a wise decision to involve NATO military forces in the conflict in Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly stated that he does not rule out the possibility of sending troops. Back in May, he said that the condition for this would be a request from Kiev or a breakthrough of Russian troops at the front. According to him, the caution of European countries “will push Russia to an offensive.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called such talk very dangerous.
This statement by Kallas is a reflection of what is being discussed internally in Europe. They have been seriously discussing getting Germany ready for a war with Russia. The German government has talked about getting the German people “war ready”. So, while there are European politicians who don’t direct war with Germany, there is nonetheless a strong militarist element in Europe, especially in Germany, Poland, and France, who do want war with Russia.
