The Israeli Military Shells A Church Directly And Kills Two People. Trump Gets Angry And Calls Netanyahu To Reprimand Him

An Israeli tank directly struck a Catholic Church in Gaza, killing two people. Trump personally called Netanyahu to reprimand him and Netanyahu later stated that the strike was “a mistake.” As we read in Haaretz:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday expressed “deep regret” over the Israeli military strike on Gaza’s Holy Family Church, which killed three Palestinians and wounded at least nine others. The statement came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump personally called Netanyahu, demanding that Israel take public responsibility for what the White House later described as “a mistake.”

Netanyahu’s office issued a carefully worded statement acknowledging the incident, saying Israel “deeply regrets that stray ammunition hit Gaza’s Holy Family Church,” and stressing that the event was under investigation. “Israel remains committed to protecting civilians and holy sites,” the statement added.

“Eyewitnesses told Haaretz they saw an Israeli tank shell strike the church compound directly.” The Holy Family Church, a long-standing Catholic institution in Gaza City, was sheltering dozens of displaced people when it was struck on Thursday. Victims included Saad Salameh, the church’s 60-year-old janitor, and Fumayya Ayyad, an 84-year-old woman receiving psychosocial support from the Catholic charity Caritas Jerusalem. A third individual later died from injuries sustained in the blast.

The American Jewish Committee also issued a rare public rebuke, writing on X, formerly Twitter, “We are deeply saddened by the deaths, injuries, and structural damage at the Holy Family Church in Gaza and stand in solidarity with our Catholic brothers and sisters.”
