We now know what the Obama administration refused to call Boko Haram, the Muslim group that is killing more Christians than anyone, a terrorist group.

It was Hilary Clinton, when she was running the State Department, who resisted the measure of labeling Boko Haram as a terrorist group. Those who were pushing for the designation are now coming forward and revealing this. Rep. Patrick Meehan, R-Pa., said today:

The delayed designation of Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organization cost us two years of increased scrutiny of the group’s activities and leadership… Boko Haram met the statutory requirements for the designation as early as 2011, but the State Department’s delay has left us with fewer resources and less intelligence on an Islamic terrorist group with ties to al-Qaeda that is clearly destabilizing the region.

In 2012 Rep. Peter King sent a letter to Hillary, urging her to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist entity, in which he wrote:

Dear Secretary Clinton:

We are writing to urge you to immediately designate the Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), in accordance with Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), as amended, and designate Boko Haram as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity (SDGT) under Executive Order 13224. We are deeply concerned that Boko Haram’s tactics, targeting, and fundraising operations appear to be increasingly international in scope, including within the U.S. Homeland.

In the last six months, Boko Haram has intensified its campaign of terrorism, including detonating a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) at a Catholic church during Christmas Day mass. The group also conducted a series of attacks in January 2012 throughout Nigeria that killed dozens. These attacks follow the August 26, 2011 bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Abuja that killed 23 and injured 100. According to Human Rights Watch, Boko Haram has killed more than 900 people in the last two years.

But yet, Hilary resisted this exhortation. A few months later a high-level Justice Department official sent a letter to the State Department asking for Boko Haram to be designated a terror group, as Reuters reported:

Lisa Monaco, head of the Justice Department’s national security division, sent a letter in January to State Department counter-terrorism chief Daniel Benjamin requesting that Boko Haram, also known as the “Nigerian Taliban,” be put on the list.

A Congressional source said that in the last few days, State Department representatives have lobbied Congress to try to stop legislation which would force the administration to act against the group or explain why they had not done so.

Boko Haram is now finally being called a terror group, after so much Christian blood has been split. I thought the liberals were focused on “human rights.” What a bunch of evil people. They are the reason why we are dealing with Islamic violence.
