First Coronavirus Case Confirmed In Brazil

The Chinese coronavirus continues to spread around the world and cause havoc to governments and societies alike. In what appears to be the first reported cases in South America as well as in the BRICS powerhouse, Brazil is reporting that the virus has appeared in the southern province of Minhas Gerais.

A 22-year-old woman suspected of being infected with the coronavirus was transferred this Monday night (27) to the Eduardo de Menezes Hospital (HEM), in the Bonsucesso neighborhood, in the Barreiro region, in Belo Horizonte.

According to the Minas Gerais State Department of Health, she had respiratory symptoms, low fever, was well and was already receiving care. HEM is a state reference for the care of infectious diseases.

According to the secretary, last Friday (24) the patient, who was traveling in the city of Wuhan, in China, was seen at the Emergency Center (UPA) in the Center-South of Belo Horizonte. (source)
