Earlier this month (May 1st), far left-wing U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) justified his speaking to a group of communists and socialists by saying it was his first amendment right. Yesterday, on May 26th, during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Durtbin questioned the first amendment rights of bloggers.
Via the Daily Caller:
Now, consider which group across the globe wants freedom of speech rights quashed more than any other. That would be the Islamic world. In the minds of Muslim leaders, no criticism of their religion or prophet should be protected speech.
That leads us back to Senator Durbin, who in 2011 fought for the cause of suppressing first amendment rights on behalf of Islam when he chaired hearings on supposed anti-Muslim bigotry. Make no mistake; the agenda of those Durbin was pushing unequivocally included the suppression of speech.
Via IPT in 2011:
Leading up to the hearings, Durbin has grown closer to CAIR and the Mosque Foundation, two Chicago-area groups that federal law enforcement records show have clearly discernible Hamas-support histories.
Last week, Durbin wrote a letter that hailed CAIR’s Chicago chapter, saying it “advances a greater understanding of the Muslim culture and serves as an essential thread in the multicultural fabric of our nation. Your efforts to advocate for tolerance promote the civil liberties of all communities.”
Here is a photo of Durbin visiting the Mosque Foundation at the time. Note the man on the far left in this photo. His name is Jamal Said, leading imam at the Bridgeview mosque in Chicago. Walid has testified that Said was his trainer before his conversion to Christianity.
Walid once commented on Said’s relationship with Abdullah Azzam, Osama bin Laden’s mentor:
“Abdullah Azzam was the colleague of my mentor, Jamal Said… They had a ribbon cutting celebration in Chicago in which the mayor of Chicago (Richard M. Daly) was present. The Muslim Society there – Jamal Said – was donating a park for the community and there was the mayor like nothing was happening.” – Unsung Davids, p. 303
We can therefore deduce that Mr. Durbin would like to suppress the free speech rights of us, the authors of this post. Well, he was either lying in the aforementioned interview or he was lying when confronted by a blogger earlier this month at the communist rally.
On May 1st, Durbin told a blogger that he (the blogger) has the first amendment right of speech and that he should not be arrested.
Take note at the :55 mark. After Durbin has to admit he’s among communists and socialists, he’s asked why. His response is as follows:
“Because we have freedom of speech in America and that’s why you can record this and not be arrested.”
When the blogger asked if Durbin thought he should be arrested, Durbin said,
“No, not at all.”
As you watch, compare what Durbin said on May 1st to what he said on May 26th. He either lied when he said the blogger shouldn’t be arrested or he lied when he said bloggers shouldn’t have first amendment protection.
It should be obvious why he doesn’t want bloggers to be protected by the document he swore an oath to protect and defend.
Flat. Out. Busted.
