Muslims in Nigeria, all members of Boko Haram, have butchered 1,505 Christians within this year so far, which is a very short time when one takes the amount killed into consideration. According to the report:
Boko Haram extremists and others have killed nearly as many Nigerian Christians in the first seven months of this year as were killed in all of 2013, the advocacy group Jubilee Campaign reported Tuesday (July 29).
Approximately 1,505 Nigerian Christians have been killed for their faith to date this year, compared to 1,783 Nigerian Christians killed in all of last year, based on Jubilee’s tally of deaths on its blog FactsNigeriaViolence.org, a compilation of reports from various news sources.
The 2014 total to date is nearly 85 percent of those killed in all of last year.
In attacks targeting religious communities, Boko Haram and others also killed Muslims, government officials, and other civilians in Northern Nigeria, for a total of 4,239 deaths to date this year, compared to 3,124 deaths in all of 2013, Jubilee reported.
According to Emmanuel Ogebe, the manager of the group who conducted the study:
The pattern therefore is that if you do not do what they demand, even if you are Muslim, you become an ‘apostate’ deserving of death… Therefore the difference between Boko Haram’s approach to Christian ‘infidels’ and Muslim apostates is you are killed as a Christian ‘just because’ your name is Christian – you go to church, etc. – whereas Muslims are generally killed ‘for cause,’ for example working for the government or refusing to pay extortion taxes to Boko Haram.
Seventy five Christian communities were attacked in the first 6 months of 2014, quite a difference in comparison to the eight attacks made on Muslim communities by Boko Haram. According to the study:
Prior to 2014, all so-called mosque attacks were assassination attempts on prominent Muslims who disagreed with Boko Haram… The attacks took place when the targeted Muslims were entering or leaving a mosque, but there were no attacks on the mosque or Muslims as such.
Seven fathers of the 223 Christian school girls who were kidnapped have been murdered within this same year. The Muslims of Boko Haram are now using IEDs and other bombs to attack Christians. Just recently Boko Haram burned down five churches after attacking the Christian communities in which they located. As we read from one report:
At least five churches in Kwajaffa, Tashan Alade and other communities in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State were on Wednesday set ablaze by suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists.
Hawul, a predominantly Christian community in southern part of the state, also shares local boundary with Garkida town of Adamawa State, which came under attack by some insurgents last Sunday, killing two soldiers and three civilians and setting ablaze a police station.
Hawul is about 30 kilometres to Biu Local Government Area and 220 kilometres drive from Maiduguri, the state capital, which is witnessing series of attacks by terrorists suspected to have formed their camps aroung Zhur, Pelachiroma and Kwajaffa hills and valleys.
Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen invaded the affected communities on Wednesday in the night, targeting only churches using Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs before setting them ablaze.
It was also gathered that the gunmen, after destroying the churches, told some community members that their next target is to go and set ablaze the local government headquarters in Hawul.
Although no live was lost, the gunmen operated freely without confrontation from either residents or security operatives.
