Federal Government Drains Major Reservoir That Feeds Silicon Valley For Being An “Earthquake Hazard”

California is known for many things, such as food production, bizarre liberal politics, movies, trend setting, and most significantly, earthquakes. Much of the population lives on the coast, and the coast is a huge fault line waiting for the “big one” that, in the lyrics of a song from the band “The Presidents Of The USA,” California would “drop into the ocean.” One does not hope for this because a lot of people would be hurt, but the fact is that the state is in danger, and most don’t seem to care about this long-standing fact.

In an interesting move from the Federal government, she has ordered the draining of a major reservoir that supplies Silicon Valley, as she says it poses an earthquake hazard according to Bakersfield.com.

In a dramatic decision that could significantly impact Silicon Valley’s water supply, federal dam regulators have ordered Anderson Reservoir, the largest reservoir in Santa Clara County, to be completely drained starting Oct. 1.

The 240-foot earthen dam, built in 1950 and located east of Highway 101 between Morgan Hill and San Jose, poses too great of a risk of collapse during a major earthquake, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which regulates dams, has concluded. (source)

As noted, California has many water issues. The fact that a reservoir is being drained as a preventative measure against earthquakes must mean this is serious.

The greatest threat America faces to her security is natural disasters. There are several “zones” which are particularly susceptible to disaster, and if a major disaster was to happen, given the interconnected nature of the nation, it could seriously damage or force a retreat from foreign geopolitical plans. This is not something the government wants to do, and she will likely take all possible means to prevent this.

It will be interesting to see if there are further seismic development in California in the years to come.
