House Oversight Committee Chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and member Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) appeared on Hannity last night to preview the upcoming hearings on Benghazi. The hearings will feature at least three witnesses with firsthand accounts of what happened on 9/11/12.
The exchange is in two parts.
A takeaway here is that Hannity continued to press both men – particularly Issa – on the prospect of perjury / crimes being perpetrated by various Obama administration officials and what the consequences of doing so might be. Issa did not bite as he’s still playing his cards close to the vest but at the end of part 2, the Chairman does concede that lying to Congress is indeed a crime.
We’ve learned by how Issa led the Fast and Furious investigation that he can be a fearless bulldog when he’s unfettered by Republican establishment leadership and politics. Unfortunately, Speaker John Boehner often appeared to have him on a leash. The question as it pertains to Benghazi is: Will Boehner take the leash off?
