Major officials in Germany are now seriously discussing bringing back the draft. Talk about bring back the draft was opened after Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, secretary general of Chancellor Merkel’s Christian Democratic (CDU) Party shocked people when she proposed the reintroduction of national service. “I can promise now – we will discuss the issue of conscription very intensively again,” she told Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper.
But of course she pulled out the old diplomatic game of saying you want something and then next saying you don’t want it (or something close to this), when she said that she was not necessarily in favor for compulsory enlistment. “There are many ways to serve,” she said.
Another major CDU official, Michael Kretschmer, the prime minister of Saxony, expressed his favor for a referendum on bringing back the draft stating on Twitter: “Suspension of conscription has been perceived premature. At the end of a thorough discussion, citizens should be asked [about the issue]”.
Not surprisingly the right wing nationalist party, the Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD, who are really just modernly marketed nazis), backed the idea of reviving the German draft, with the party’s lesbian leader Alice Weidel stating: “The suspension [of the draft] was a gross error. It must be repealed and the Bundeswehr again become an attractive employer, who can master his original task, namely the national defense, again.”
What does this indicate? As the old saying goes, where there is smoke there is fire. Talking about bringing back the draft is another indication that the Germans know that war is coming. Its not just Germany that is talking about bringing back the draft. France recently decided to reintroduce mandatory national service, and back in 2015 Lithuania brought back military conscription. As a report from Quartz states:
Last year, Sweden announced it would reinstate the military draft—seven years after abolishing it. The government cited Russian military activity and low military recruitment as justification. In 2015, Lithuania reintroduced military conscription following Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
This marks a sharp shift from under a decade ago. When Sweden initially announced it would abolish the draft, it was apart of a Europe-wide trend to do so; France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands abolished the draft in the 1990s and Germany followed suit in 2011. But growing tensions in the region
,and civil discord are putting national mobilization back on the agenda.
Another sign of an impeding conflict in Europe is the fact that Germany wants to undertake the unprecedented policy of recruiting non-German EU citizens into the German armed forces. Moreover, the above quote mentioned how Sweden announced that it is going to reinstate the draft. I recall how the Swedish government just months ago was distributing pamphlets to Swedish citizens warning them of a war and how to prepare for it. The brochure was sent to every household in Sweden, as one report from Reuters says:
every household in Sweden received a booklet of instructionson how to prepare for war. Issued by the government and including instructions for every Swedish resident to resist an invader by all means necessary, it was a dramatic sign of just how quickly the recently unthinkable has become something Europe’s Nordic governments in particular feel they must address.
The brochure has an English translation which can be read here.
The brochure goes on to say that anyone between the ages of 16 and 70 can be called in to “assist” the Swedish government during a war:
The brochure has some graphic art illustrating Swedish soldiers, helicopters, a tank, jet fighters and a naval ship, with statements calling on the Swedish people to collectively fight for their country if Sweden is invaded:
People argue that there is not going to be a major war between European countries again. You are talking about Europe, a land that gets ravaged by wars every century. It was just in the 1990s that Yugoslavia tore itself to death by war, and it was just in 2014 that Russia was in war with Ukraine. Ultimately, you are talking about humanity, who has never ended with wars against himself.
To sit there and deny the prospect of a European war is to deny the inclinations towards conquest and the grandeurs of power that is within the original sin of man. To deny a future war in Europe — in which Europeans will kill each other — is to deny reality; it is to deny all of the millennia in which wars have taken place in that continent. We always talk about wars in the Muslim world because it is easier to discuss such things due to the conventionally held perceptions of Middle Easterners as warlike and savage. But this is due to knee-jerk prejudices; for man himself is a savage without God. When Japheth — the patriarch of all Europeans — leaves the tent of Shem (that is, the Temple of God, Whose Son Jesus Christ is of the line of Shem), he becomes just as savage as any African or Semite who leaves God.
Humanity, without the coverings of the Sacrificed Lamb, is like Eve when she was naked, wanting power, absent of contentment, with the desire for domination knowing no ends, never ceasing in her desire to become a god. In this state of mind, humanity torments himself, commencing wars that enslave his brothers, but more than this, for he will organize policies of human experimentation, and he will conspire how to exterminate his brother. People, even though they may know God, they will not glorify him not as God (Romans 1:21), and in this condition, they become what the Apostle calls inventors of evil things (Romans 1:30). The lover of Darwin, the hater of humanity, “plans wickedness upon his bed; He sets himself on a path that is not good; He does not despise evil.” (Psalm 36:4)
The verses of Wisdom 2 give us an illustration as to how the great chaos will come. First the wicked say, “Let’s drink the most expensive wines and use the finest perfumes.” (Wisdom 2:7) What does this mean but a lack of frugality? And what do you see today, with people enslaved to credit cards, but a lack of frugality and living within your means? The wicked then say: “We’ll oppress the poor, even if they are righteous. We’ll show no respect for widows or old people. We’ll call ourselves right if we are strong enough to get what we want. No one ever got anywhere by being weak!” (Wisdom 2:10-11) The Douay-Rheims version of the verse renders it more accurately: “But let our strength be the law of justice: for that which is feeble, is found to be nothing worth.” (Wisdom 2:11) This parallels Darwinism with its ‘law’ of ‘survival of the fittest,’ and the verse prophesizes the coming of darwinist regimes who utter their desires to exterminate the weak.
It is not surprising that the ultra-nationalist party in Germany, the AfD, is backing the draft, since they are a militarist party that backs eugenics. A former major member of the AfD, Bjorn Hocke, has been very active teaching Social-Darwinist ideology. He is heavily influenced by the British-Canadian Social-Darwinist, J, Philippe Rushton. Rushton was very vocal and outspoken about his support for eugenics, and even went so far as to blame Holocaust survivors for making the study of eugenics taboo. The AfD official, Hocke, has openly referenced Rushton’s book, Race, Evolution and Behavior, in which it is written:
“Among the refugees who fled Nazi persecution and entered Britain and the United States in the 1930s and 1940s there were many who exerted a powerful influence on the Zeitgeist of the social sciences, helping to create an orthodoxy of egalitarianism and environmentalism (Degler, 1991).” (p. 14)
Rushton affirms in his book that he is following the legacy of Francis Galton, the nephew of Charles Darwin and the founder of eugenic studies, and his publication is littered with Galton’s name. He writes in his book:
“Many nineteenth-century scientists including Broca, Darwin, Galton, Lombroso, and Morton concluded that there were racial differences in brain size” (p. 238)
Francis Galton defined eugenics as “the science which deals with all influences that improve the inborn qualities of a race; also with those that develop them to the utmost advantage.” Galton was of course continuing the teaching of his uncle, Charles Darwin, who wrote:
“With savages, the weak in body and mind are soon eliminated; and those that survive commonly exhibit a vigorous state of health. We civilized men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination; we build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed and the sick; we institute poor laws; and our medical men exert their utmost skill to save the life of everyone to the last moment. There is reason to believe that vaccination has preserved thousands who, from a weak constitution, would formerly have succumbed to smallpox. Thus, the weak members of civilized society propagate their kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man. It is surprising how soon a want of care, or care wrongly directed, leads to the degeneration of a domestic race; but, excepting in the case of man himself, hardly anyone is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed.” (Darwin, The Descent of Man, 2nd ed., pp. 133-134, 1887)
With all of this talk of military activities and war, one must say with David, “Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing?” (Psalm 2:1)
