Weiner Wedge: Clintons and Huma at odds?

When it comes to their affinity for Huma Abedin, Bill and Hillary Clinton went all in long ago, often referring to her as being ‘like a daughter’, which almost puts her on par with Chelsea. New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner seems to be driving a bit of a wedge between his wife and the Clintons.

Via the New York Post:

Bill and Hillary Clinton are angry with efforts by mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner and his campaign to compare his Internet sexcapades — and his wife Huma Abedin’s incredible forgiveness — to the Clintons’ notorious White House saga, The Post has learned.

“The Clintons are upset with the comparisons that the Weiners seem to be encouraging — that Huma is ‘standing by her man’ the way Hillary did with Bill, which is not what she in fact did,” said a top state Democrat.

The New York Times referred to her as the “architect” of Weiner’s political resurgence, which necessarily makes her an integral part of what’s gotten the Clinton dander up. In fact, Huma appears to be testing her wings after leaving Hillary’s nest:

“The Clintons are pissed off that Weiner’s campaign is saying that Huma is just like Hillary,” said the source. “How dare they compare Huma with Hillary? Hillary was the first lady. Hillary was a senator. She was secretary of state.”

A longtime Hillary aide and Clinton friend, Abedin’s surprisingly unequivocal support of her husband after his bombshell admission Tuesday that he engaged in salacious online sexting well after he resigned in disgrace from Congress in 2011 left the Clintons stunned, continued the source.

“Hillary didn’t know Huma would do this whole stand-by-your-man routine, and that’s one of the reasons the Clintons are distancing themselves from all this nonsense,” the source said.

If Huma is the architect of her husband’s campaign, the Clintons must be angered with her too, if these reports are correct. How can they be, though? She’s been under Hillary’s tutelage ever since 1996, after graduating from George Washington University (GWU) and growing up in Saudi Arabia. Her and Hillary have practically been joined at the hip. Huma watched how her mentor handled similar situations and she’s just following the playbook.

The Clintons’ love for Abedin is legendary but if there’s anything that would take precedent over that, it’d be their desire for Hillary to be elected president in 2016. If Huma is seen as interfering with that, Bill and Hillary could turn very quickly.

It’s not surprising that the Clintons didn’t know Huma was going to join her husband at that press conference last week either. It’s actually a bit obvious they weren’t involved; it was a train wreck for Huma as Weiner admitted that she had known about Weinergate and Weinergate 2.0 “all along”, which implicates her in the same kind of evasiveness Weiner has engaged in:

Something else Hillary may not have signed onto was State Department’s legal counsel issuing a written response to Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), which included a letter written by Huma herself. Both letters seem to contain an implied confession of possible law-breaking when Abedin essentially admitted that she worked for 240 days as a Special Government Employee (SGE); the legal limit is 130 days.

Then, of course, Huma’s Muslim Brotherhood connections could also be brought into all of this.

If and when these truths come out, the Weiner wedge could be the least of the Clintons’ problems.
