As 9/11 Anniversary Approaches, the ‘System (is) Blinking Red’ again

Chapter 8 of the 9/11 Commission Report is entitled, “The System was Blinking Red”. It was taken from a quote of then CIA Director George Tenet, who said that by late July of 2001, it could not “get any worse”.

Eerily, the system began blinking again in late July of this year with what’s been termed a “border crisis” along the U.S. border with Mexico. In the weeks that have followed, the threat of ISIS terrorists crossing into the U.S. from Mexico has grown as Border Patrol agents are being overwhelmed and distracted thanks to what has clearly been an attempt by politicians to exploit a loophole in the immigration laws.

Further comparisons between 2001 and 2014 come courtesy of Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Just last month, he said that thanks to “Open borders and immigration issues”, ISIS poses an “immediate threat”.

Palpable concern is rapidly growing when it comes to the collaboration between Mexican drug cartels and ISIS terrorists as the U.S. border with Mexico continues to be overrun.

Former National Deputy Chief of the US Border Patrol Ronald Colburn was interviewed about the threat of that collaboration; he seems convinced it is growing and that it is a very real threat to Americans. He even mentions the need to be vigilant as 9/11/14 approaches.

Via Fox Nation:

Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer (Ret.) appeared on Your World with Neil Cavuto and expressed very similar concerns, stating:

“We need to understand that if drug groups can do it [cross the border], if gangs can do it, terrorists will most certainly be doing it, and so the president has to understand that the threat is already real.”
