A Muslim man in France entered a police station where he stabbed a female officer several times before he attacked another officer. He fled into an apartment complex where he kidnapped a woman and held her captive for two hours and thirty minutes. He eventually fired on officers who opened fire on him and killed him. According to Le Monde:

In the evening, the public prosecutor of Nantes, Pierre Sennès, detailed the circumstances of the attack during a press conference: around 10:20 a.m., a man presented himself at the municipal police station of La Chapelle -on-Erdre, explaining that he had a vehicle problem to resolve. “Very quickly, he threw himself on this person [the municipal policewoman] and stabbed her several times, injuring her hand and legs ,” said Mr. Sennès. This victim being on the ground, he stole his service weapon, a revolver capable of firing six shots. ”

According to the prosecutor, two people located on the floor of the municipal police station then went down and tried to control the individual, who threatened them. “On leaving, he meets a municipal police officer and stabs him, but he touches the bulletproof vest and the blade will break,” continued the Nantes prosecutor. The attacker then fled in his vehicle, but had to continue on foot after an accident.

A vast manhunt was then launched. Two hundred and fifty gendarmes, including the GIGN branch in Nantes, are deployed to find the perpetrator. Two helicopters fly over the area, while three dog teams and a squadron of mobile gendarmes participated in the search. The surrounding schools had been secured, according to the gendarmerie.

In his flight, the attacker rushed into a private residence in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, around 10:40 am There, “he will enter an apartment and kidnap the resident for 2 h 30″ , traced the prosecutor. At 1:10 p.m., he stood on the balcony of the apartment, saw the gendarmerie located nearby, and opened fire at least twice on the gendarmes, who replied, without anyone being injured on both sides.

“He then leaves the apartment, leaves the private residence and finds himself in a field near the gendarmerie. At that moment, the individual takes his weapon, takes aim at the gendarmes in front of him and fires at least three shots ” , according to the prosecution. A gendarme is hit in the knee, the other at the level of the neck and a bullet lodges in the bulletproof vest of one of the two gendarmes. The soldiers then retaliate and the aggressor is hit in the abdomen. “He will die after several minutes of resuscitation attempts by the emergency services. “
