Liberals are indeed enigmas. During an interview with Saudi Arabian filmmaker Haifaa al Mansour, Bill Maher slams liberals for not understanding that the ideology of Islam is the problem, not the Muslim people who follow it. Perhaps truer words have never been spoken but as Maher was nailing the truth from one side of his mouth, the other side was furthering a blatant falsehood – that Islam is a ‘conservative’ religion / ideology.
First, here’s a short version of the exchange (click here to see a lengthier version):
The problem with Bill Maher is his atheism. In his worldview, all religion is ‘conservative’ in nature. He sees the ideological battlefield as being one of spiritual (religious) vs. secular. The problem is that both good and evil exist in the spiritual realm while the secular realm is far more susceptible to forces of evil. It is enemy territory that is rife with people who are easily deceived and deceit is Lucifer’s lifeblood. Conversely, good desires the use of truth (not deceit) to appeal to people in the natural to seek out Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
In reality, Islam is extreme liberalism.
We ask Bill Maher to explain how it is that the only two Muslims in the U.S. Congress – Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) – are not only very liberal Democrats but are both members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) caucus as well as the extremely liberal (secular) Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). If Maher’s standard is applied, both Ellison and Carson are ‘conservative’.
Either Ellison and Carson are each Muslim and liberal OR Bill Maher is being deceived about what liberalism is.
The paradox is that both of those options are true.
Bill Maher is also being deceived because he’s an atheist.
