By BI: A mouse has been blamed for triggering a stampede at a mosque in Morocco which left 80 people injured. Officials said the panic erupted in Casablanca’s Hassan II mosque while it was packed with Muslim worshippers celebrating Ramadan.

It was reportedly started by a mouse scurrying over a woman’s foot, causing her and others to scream. Eye-witnesses said thousands of people were performing Taraweeh prayers when dozens of women panicked and ran out of the mosque.

The commotion spread with men, who were traditionally preying (sic) in a separate part of the building, joining the rush to get outside, Morocco World News reports.

Those hurt were mainly women, with reports of light injuries and fractures, according to officials. It was the holiest night of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the Moroccan news agency reported.
