Muslims in Pakistan tortured a Christian man for 17 days straight, and then threatened to kill his entire family.

Imagine living your life when the wolves of the devil incessantly are behind you; they track your every step, and anticipate your every move. They ceaselessly tear down the strength of your spirit, but when they fail, they not only threaten your life, but guarantee that they will put your whole family to the sword.

This is what happened to a Christian man named Gulsher. He was the driver for the Pakistani Christian politician Shabaz Bhatti. One day, March 2, 2011, when Gulsher was driving Bhatti, the Muslims, who were members of the Pakistani Taliban, drove right in front of them and formed a blockade. They opened fire, approached Bhatti’s car, pulled Gulsher out, and then continued to shoot more rounds into the car. Their bullets ripped through the vehicle and pierced Bhatti, and he gave up the ghost. Gulsher, by the will of God, survived the attack.

All Pakistan Minorities Alliance, the political party of Bhatti that is suppose to be helping persecuted Christians in Pakistan, actually turned in Gulsher to the police, who then tortured him. As Our Lord states, the tares, the children of the wicked one, are rooted in the soils of the world to suffocate the wheat. For even after this betrayal took place, Paul Bhatti, Shabaz Bhatti’s brother and a supposed Christian, requested Gulsher to tell the police the one responsible for the murder.

Paul did not do this in good will, but to merely have Gulsher go through the natural persecution of those who are set before the eyes of Muhammad’s slaves. He was turned over to the merciless hands of men who, as Christ forewarned when His divine feet stood on the sacred earth of the prophets, “will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues” (Matthew 10:17) With such faithlessness we cannot help but recite the words of the blessed Apostle:

in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren (2 Corinthians 11:26)

The police seized Gulsher, and tortured him with the most excruciating of afflictions, for 17 days straight, in the attempt to compel him to blame a Christian instead of a Muslim for the murder of Bhatti. But like the loyal athlete, this saint ran the race, and endured without acquiescing to the demands of the heathen. In his spirit was written the words of the Holy Paul:

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (I Corinthians 15:55)

They scourged him and beat him, afflicted and put his body through the utmost of agonies, and so devastating were the injuries, that by the time he was done and let go, he could barely walk and talk, his speech was repressed by the pains placed upon him, and his body grossly swollen.

The threats from both the police and the Taliban continued on over the last two years, and in such a situation we must ask ourselves, Why do the heathen rage? And then the worst type of threat came to him: the Muslims said that they would kill his entire family. As our Pakistani contact informed us:

Recently, Gulsher received a direct threat on his phone that if he recognized the murders, his whole family would be killed just like Shahbaz Bhatti. Neither Police nor the Christian leadership gave him any protection or support.

Other members of the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance Party, who were not even threatened, fled Pakistan, and left poor Gulsher by himself to be devoured by the wolves. They forsook him, and and his anguish can be paralleled with the lamentation of St. Paul:

Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. (2 Timothy 4:9-11)

But hope sprung from this ocean of hopelessness, and Gulsher pleaded to Rescue Christians to save him. We came to him and like the Good Samaritan, had compassion on him (Luke 10:33).

Rescue Christians was the only one who came to his aid. As our Pakistani contact says:

Gulsher requested Rescue Christians for his help and yesterday we moved him out of the hell situation.
