Machiel de Graaf is a Member of Parliament in the Netherlands. He is also a member of Geert Wilders’ PVV / anti-Islam Party. During a speech to Parliament, de Graaf enumerated the number of ways the Netherlands would be different if there was no Islam in the country.
It’s a long list…
It wasn’t so long ago that Wilders was the only politician you’d hear deliver a speech like this:
There is definitely something happening in pockets across Europe. In France, the rise of Marine le Pen is attributed primarily to her harnessing the same kind of anti-Islamic immigration base. In Sweden recently, the far right wing of the Sweden Democrats – which only makes up about 13% of the Parliament – found a way to force early elections in the spring that they’re billing as a referendum on immigration policies.
In Great Britain, David Cameron is… well… I did say “pockets” in Europe.
