An American veteran in West Virginia, named Charlie Keaton, will be traveling to Iraq in a couple of weeks to fight and kill ISIS terrorists and protect Assyrian Christians. According to the report:
Charlie Keaton is a small town southern West Virginia man
“Everybody knows everybody,” he said.
He enjoys the simple things in life, like hunting and fishing in the Guyandotte River behind his home. But in a couple weeks, he’ll be trading in his fishing pole and lacing up his old combat boots
“Current mission is to go to northern Iraq and help aid the Assyrian Christians and the Kurdish forces in their fight against ISIS,” Keaton said.
Keaton, the Pineville native, is one of a select 100 veterans across the nation in a group called Veterans Against ISIS, he has already served two tours in Iraq. Gut-wrenching is just one of the terms he described the current situation in the Middle East
“To make it worse their taking this in American military vehicles, American up armored humvees, you know we just think there’s something more that can be done,” he said.
Keaton is a father of two young boys. He thinks they’re too young to understand the gravity of the situation. Lending support to those who need it hits home for Keaton.
“We’re excellent trained, trained by the best military on the planet and so were able to help you know so I think it would be worse if we didn’t,” he said.
Keaton said. he’s shipping out some time with in the next three weeks. He also said the government has made it very clear that veterans against ISIS is not associated with the U-S military and they should not count on any support if the group runs into trouble.
