LGBT “Ministry” At A Catholic Church Promotes Book By Episcopal “Priest” That Calls Jesus “Queer” And Insults Christian Morality

In an article put up by former homosexual turned Catholic and anti-homosexual activist, Joseph Sciambra noted how St. Patrick- St. Anthony Church in Hartford, CT is promoting a blasphemous book by the homosexual activist and Episcopal “priest” Patrick Cheng called “From Sin To Amazing Grace: Discovering the Queer Christ” in which he perverts Christian doctrine and uses it to promote and justify the worst of LGBT ideas, concepts, and behavior, even going so far as to call Christ, “queer”:

“The LGBT Book Group,” which is part of “The Open Hearts LGBT Ministry” at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church in Hartford Connecticut, is currently reading “From Sin to Amazing Grace: Discovering the Queer Christ” by Patrick Cheng.

The Parish is staffed and overseen by the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province; their Provincial Office is located in New York City. The Friars also operate gay-affirmative ministries at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in the Archdiocese of New York, at the St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, and at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh. St. Francis of Assisi Parish has a long history of radical gay-approval: sponsoring “Pride” masses to coincide with the New York City gay “Pride Parade, gay-affirmative lectures and retreats, and a recent Mardi Gras party at a local gay bar. The LGBTQ Spirituality Group at the St. Anthony Shrine has held discussions on “Queer Theology,” coordinated events with the gay-affirmative outreach with St. Cecilia’s “Rainbow Ministry,” also located in Boston, and the Coordinator for the Group was one of the signatories on a Call To Action petition which called for changes regarding language in the Catechism referencing homosexuality.

Patrick Cheng is an Episcopal Priest currently stationed at The Church of the Transfiguration in New York City. According to his book “From Sin to Amazing Grace: Discovering the Queer Christ,” although he was raised “a devout Roman Catholic,” Cheng left the Church because he disagreed with the Catholic teachings regarding homosexuality. For fifteen years, he didn’t walk into a church. He wrote: “In those intervening years, I had met and fallen in love with my now-husband, Michael. Through Michael, I had experienced the power of God’s incarnational love in a way that no theology book or doctrine could ever convey.”

Cheng’s book is separated into two sections: the first part being a radical deconstruction of Christian morality away from what Cheng describes as a “crime-based model” to one that is centered on a “Queer Christ.” The second part of the book is subdivided into seven sections:

In his cosmology of the “Queer Christ,” Cheng proposes “seven new deadly queer sins:” exploitation, the closet, apathy, conformity, shame, isolation, singularity. In Cheng’s world view, it is a sin for an LGBT person to not “come-out,” to remain politically inactive in terms of LGBT advocacy, or conform to traditional Christian moral standards with regards to homosexuality. I am not going to reprint the entire article because it is simply too disgusting. However, it is a necessary look at what the LGBT movement is promoting as “normal” behavior.

Fr. Tom Gallagher

Now this story strikes close to me because I know this church well. As the story notes, he is the pastor of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church in Hartford, CT. I used to be a regular at their novus ordo masses during the weekday because due the church’s location in downtown Hartford close to many large companies, they always had a 12:05 PM mass which I would frequent. Since the Church is administered by a group of Franciscan Friars, Fr. Tom Gallagher, who was mentioned in the article (see above) was one of three who regularly served at mass.

As noted in the story, this church has many different social events, many of which are pro-LGBT and some that are pro-Muslim (I know because they had a close working relationship with Hartford Seminary, which I have written about here as well). As such, I usually would see events the church offered, and if I remember correctly, I remember seeing a name of a priest who came to speak (I did not attend) at what I saw was one of the first openly-announced pro-LGBT events. The priest’s name was Fr. Michael Yarbrough.

Msgr. Yarbrough

It was not only until years later when I began working with Ted that he shared with me his horrifying story about how Fr. Michael Yarbrough tried to lure and sexually assault him. This in turn lead to a full-out investigation on which he exposed a veritable network of homosexual priests operating in the diocese of Austin, TX, you should take the time to read it here.

Fr. Dariusz Oko of Poland wrote a paper back in 2012  in which he  calls out a  “huge homosexual underground in the Church,” and says that like the Trojan Horse of the ancient Greek folklore, homosexuality is a problem besieging the Church from within and without:

Thus, I have received news, results of scientific studies, and official documents from both around Poland and various regions of the world, particularly the United States, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Holland and Italy, and, first of all, from the Holy See. I began my work as a struggle against a deadly, external threat to Christianity, but then gradually discovered that the division is not that simple. The enemy is not only outside the Church, but within it as well, sometimes perfectly camouflaged, like the Trojan Horse. We are dealing not only with the problem of a homoideology and a homolobby outside the Church, but with an analogous problem within it as well, where homoideology takes the form of a homoheresy.

So how do you solve this problem? The answer is simple: a return to the ways which the Catholic Church has always taught and handled this problem, which is the perfect balance of mercy with justice.

There is no such thing as a “gay saint”, meaning a person who is a practicing homosexual who embraces sin because homosexuality is a deadly (mortal) sin that if one does not stop doing and seek repentance will destroy his soul. This is not about being uncharitable- this is the simple word of God written in the Bible and articulated by the real Catholic saints for centuries. It is uncharitable and unmerciful to not say otherwise, no different than giving a man with suicidal tendencies a knife and telling him to cut his own wrists.

If you want to read a good study for how the Church traditionally deals with homosexuality, read the Book of Gomorrah by St. Peter Damian, who spent his life fighting the homo heresy that plagued the Church of the times in which he lived. There are currently two translations out of this, but I recommend the older one by Winifried Laurier Press because it has a detailed study in the beginning of the book showing how St. Peter Damian’s statements on homosexuality go back all the way to the beginning of the Church through the councils and other official documents, proving that what one sees today with the “gay mafia” is a abberant, unnatural, evil growth and needs to be lopped off like the deadly, cancerous growth that it is.

This story just goes to show how deep this network of homosexual clergy runs. As we have said before on and will say it again, if you have legitimate information about a priest who is engaging in homosexual activity or is involved in abusing children, let us know at so we can investigate. These homosexuals and child molesters need to be exposed and cleaned out because their refusal to deal with their sins and personal issues is hurting the most helpless of people in the most terrible of ways.

Jesus the Just Judge. To the modern eye, Jesus might look “mean” in this image, but it is an important reminder for all of us. Jesus is perfect love, and in Him perfect mercy and perfect justice are found. Nothing that Jesus says is “unfair” because Jesus IS the standard because He is God. This should make any man, especially those who go about promoting grave evils such as sodomy, think twice about such behavior. God will NOT be mocked, and those who refuse to even make any effort but revel in their perversity will have to face this.

More evidence of the Protestant heresy infiltrating the LORD’s Church. They make it up as they go along. Just like Arius did, what we need now is a whole army of St. Nikolases to beat the crap out of these heretics and blasphemers.

They all need to repent for their souls are in peril. If they indeed claim to be “bible believing” then what will they do with Leviticus 18:22-23 and other verses prohibiting such deviant and abhorrent behavior?

    • JamieAllen

They ignore it; simply to prop up numbers in the pews; ignore it and it goes away???? I don’t think any of them believe Jesus is actually about to return; spectacularly .

    • Tom_mcewen

Raph, have you seen the pilgrims to the church of St Nicholas the wonder worker in Russia. Wonderful. The church was destroyed by the Atheists, but the hearts of the people were safe. Truly, truly He has risen indeed.

      • Raph Sebastian

No I have not, Brother Tom. But I know of the Church and its history. So many Protestant cults during the middle ages did the same, including islam. Yet we survive, they think our faith is based on buildings and art.

Amen brother, truly indeed. As we now head into Passiontide and we reflect on His Passion, our LORD and His truth are found only in His Church.

  • JamieAllen

Jesus is full of mercy, but I’m pretty sure playing priest and calling Jesus queer is about as ready for hellfire and damnation as you can be assured of in reality.

    • Raph Sebastian

I don’t know if there is a special place in damnation for these evil doers who use and defile the LORD’s name. But clearly damnation awaits them if they do not repent.

  • Grandmere

This is a symptom of the sin that entered into the Anglican Communion – the denial of the authority of scripture. I have lived though and survived the total upheaval caused by this grave sin. How I wish Mother Angelica were still here to give these Franciscans a piece of her mind.

    • Raph Sebastian

Indeed dear sister! This is how so many people will fall into the trap and damn themselves. They continue as if there is no sin, they continue in their sinful ways and expect to be saved!

    • Kamau41

“the denial of the authority of scripture.” That is the very crux of the whole entire issue.

    • Tom_mcewen

More like a flame thrower then a piece of her mind.

  • Tom_mcewen

The harvest is green in the fields and the Pantocrator is putting on his number one billion size boots to make whine out of the gripes of heretics..

    • Grandmere

Love your play on words. Two snaps up.

      • Tom_mcewen

I was happily painting a picture of Mary and the Christ child and I read the slander from Sally Bode and I felt hate, not good. I am trying real hard to make into purgatory, hate doesn’t help. There is a cure of ignorance but the spoon of knowledge makes them gag. Well, back to my idolatry.

  • obfuscation100

The fact that the Local Ordinary tolerates it speaks volumes. In the Vatican these wolves in sheep’s clothing are called The Lavender Mafia. Our Lady of Fatima & LaSalette told us that there would be an apostasy in the Church that started at the top.

Christ said that anyone who harms a child should have a millstone put around their neck and put into the sea. Homosexuals and pedos are cut out of the same cloth.

These issues must be addressed at the local level as we can see that the hierarchy is deeply compromised, in apostasy. That means those who call themselves Catholic can no longer support the corruption. Next thing you know, these church buildings will become mosques because of the passivity of the so-called laity.

The Church needs to return to its pre-Vatican II roots, to the Tridentine Mass and sacraments. What are called sacraments and the Mass in the Novus Ordo are fake. There is no sanctifying grace flowing through the Mystical Body of Christ. Vatican II is when the Smoke of Satan entered the Church. He was enthroned in the Vatican in 1963 – interregnum John XXIII and Paul VI by ecclesial Freemasons.

While we are not to judge a person’s heart, we MUST judge their actions and act accordingly.

  • Cuzick

Where are the real men of God in that church? Operation Whip ring a bell … Ted can’t do it all.

    • Tom_mcewen

I would enjoy watching Leo XIII stalk the corridors with a whip.

      • Cuzick

Hopefully we will live to see that day with a future Pope of his same fortitude.

    • Стефан Евгений

Hey Cuzick! you need this Rusin to give you a helping hand?
We’ll give them a Cossack horse whipping.

      • Cuzick

Yes , we need to know the proper technique of the Cossack to effectively drive out the wolves From the sheep !

        • Стефан Евгений

Ha! this is how to deal with it,this would shock most Americans these days.

          • Cuzick

I’m afraid your right The ” timeout ” only mode of correction embraced in America has produced a generation of brats. A swat on the backside is a timeless method in helping form a Christian attitude of humility in ones life. The Lord “s chastening of us confirms his love .

          • I like it.

  • katz

Why did they bother to become priests when they very well know homosexuality is a sin? It is as clear as day in Leviticus, Romans and Revelation! There is no cherrypicking over what Christians want to believe as some accuse us of. They mock the Old Testament and choose to believe in men’s evolving knowledge called science when ultimately God is the Maker of us, male and female.

  • David W

It would be interesting to see the latest liturgical calendar printed up, Tom!

  • Grandmere

I squeezed through the doors at the Shrine of The Most Blessed Sacrament last September. What a pilgrimage!

  • Raph Sebastian

You argue that the Catholic Church changed the bible to slander the Catholic Church and protect the Protestant heresy. Arianism is a Protestant heresy just like Lutherism, mohammedism, Zwinglism, Baptist traditionalisms, Pentacostalism, Methodism, Evangelicalism, “snake handling-ism”, all 40000 denominations etc etc etc teaching some form of bastardized “Christianity” or another.

Where is your evidence apart from the slander of unreliable sources and anti-Catholic BS? Youtube? Really? NIV written by Jesuits? Really? Would any Catholic be bothered to come up with a Protestant bible? In the US commercial copyrights to the NIV is owned by Zondervan in the United States and to Hodder & Stoughton in the UK. Yeah right…wondered why these Protestants and atheists and liberals want to copyright what was given freely to the world by the Catholic Church? You slander because you choose to be ignorant but I bet you will change the subject in your reply!

Have you heard of the Septuagint? The very same Old Testament in Greek that Jesus used? What books are in the Septuagint? And Finally if the Septuagint is good enough for Jesus, why isn’t it good enough for you and all the charlatans that came up with new versions, especially the blasphemous KJV?

Who is this King James? Have you read about him? Since you like youtube perhaps they have a video of him there too, because reading and doing historical research is not your strong suit, since you recommend youtube.

    • He is a grasshopper disguised as a cat.

      • Tom_mcewen

Rock of the word? And a spirit filled mind that cannot sin? I can’t think of a single empirical or apostolic fact to prove this new theology, if I can call it Theology, where it is actually Heresy

  • Flame blue

False prophets who pervert the words of scripture have no mercy from God. These devils know they are evil! If they say Jesus was queer, then woe to them for life is short on Earth but long in Hell.

  • Raph Sebastian

Sorry I am not bothered with homosexuality. Not their “right” nor their agenda. I have no need to read demonically inspired things. I will stick to what the Catholic Church teaches on homosexuality, abortion, adultery in the form of divorce remarriage, the sanctity of the family and on sin.

    • Higlac

Relative to your anti-Protestant thinking: what do you say, sir, when I tell you that LOTS of Protestants abhor the sodomites and their agenda?

In fact, he who truly formed much of my thinking was an old United Church of Canada minister who however had his head completely screwed-on RIGHT: he knew better than to attack either the Orthodox or the Romanists. He didn’t hesitate to say “we agree with the Pope on a high percentage of issues” – and he MOST EMPHATICALLY was IMPLACABLY OPPOSED to the entire “LGBT” movement as well as to any deviation from sound Biblical doctrine. It was he who warned me about non-believers like John Shelby Spong and others like him, dissecting their apostasies and heresies quite analytically (much of which I alas didn’t truly understand at the time); he had no truck with anything that can be called heresy. Furthermore, he didn’t hesitate to call me away from a sin that was marring my Christian commitment at the time.

It’s now 14 years since God Called him Home: I’ve zero doubt that Our Heavenly Father will have said to him “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In either the Orthodox or Catholic churches he would have been a fearsomely outstanding priest or even prelate.

It seems to me that you’re being too severe with the entire Protestant movement: God Knows that there was provocation that finally pushed such unfortunates as Luther, Schwartzert (Melanchthon), Chauvin/Cauvin (Calvin), Knox and others to rebel. Had those rogues in the Catholic Church like Alexander VI, Julius II and Leo X known to REPENT IN TIME (only after the Sack of Rome in 1527 did enough such come around and start being real priests and prelates!!), much of the Reformation could have been avoided.

The sad truth is that when you question one part of things, no matter how small, it’s too easy to start questioning more and more until one either lands up disbelieving OR one stops himself. However, it’s also important not to attack anybody or anything more than is inevitable.

      • Raph Sebastian

Indeed I have utter disdain for those who start off with slandering. It happens all too often. You’ve been on here long enough to know this. Even Walid has disdain for such people. I do not take my cue based on Walid’s reactions to these people. People prefer their ignorance and slander over the hundreds of articles refuting their rote learnt slanders.

My words are mine and mine only. I am fully responsible for them. I will stand in judgment for them and for my inability to suffer fools gladly.

Maybe one day I might just not bother replying to the stone throwing and baiting, because if you notice those that throw stones and howl their slanders almost never stick around for the reply. But you must know that I do not solicit interaction. Almost always a slanderer would want to engage me then like clockwork they disappear. I can’t be faulted for calling them out for their moronic attempts at trolling.

Next I do not make excuses for individuals who occupied the Seat of St. Peter, many of whom we already know were driven by personal agendas. In fact I have condemned them just as vehemently. But the Church remains and always will be holy and inerrant in her teachings.

Next, I will continue to oppose evil. Evil is evil regardless if it attempts to masquerade as a benign entity. Be it in the form of the Protestant heresy or the homosexual agenda or pedophiles masquerading as men of God or politicians masquerading as being concerned for the people or sin as defined and taught by the LORD and His Church.

I will not compromise even as others “evolve” their positions and embrace evil in small doses until they themselves succumb and are engulfed to all the evils aforementioned supra.

  • Raph Sebastian

Read the cCatechism again eithout your Protestant lenses or your atheist bend. What you write is no different from the run off the mill atheist. Using dubious sources yo make your arguments proves one thing that you’d use anything even those with credentials already discredited to make arguments. That is at best pathetic at worst dishonest.

All denominations after the Arian heresy up to the founding of islam right up to the Protestant heresy have common traits – disobedience and hatred for the Catholic Church.

You can pretend that that is not true all you want but facts are facts, you can twist scripture using a blasphemous source all you want

  • Which KJV do you claim is superior- the 1611 version that contained all the books approved by the ancient Church council or the post-Protestant reformation that whittled down to a mere 66 books Bible?

Second, did Jesus ever “spake” in Shakespeare’s language?

  • I asked you which version and you failed to answer. Therefore you are nothing but a quarrelsome fellow more interested in pushing a point.

    Good day.

  • Wow. It’s why there is so many translation and so many different interpretations. No wonder atheists mock Christians.

The rejection of the 7 councils of the ancient is why Protestants continue to divide further and further away. According to you, the Holy Spirit failed to keep the truth until the king James scholars discovered the correct truth.

No. I will stick with the seven ancient church councils because they were inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit. They fought and defended the orthodox teaching of the Scriptures.

Gnostics continue to wage their war against the Catholic Church.

  • Raph Sebastian

I am quite sure you will not read all of this, despite asking me to explain, I am very confident that you will just skim through if not just cursorily glance at this reply, if you are honest, you wouldn’t even be asking this, because you could very well go find out the Catholic position and scriptural references for these beliefs. But here goes anyway, in case, I presume wrongly.

[Adoration of Mary] False Protestant lies and slander at play here..not Catholic adores Mary the Mother of God. Adoration is for God, there is a difference between veneration and worship (adoration) look it up.

Praying the Rosary is what got the people of Europe through the islamic invasion and the Rosary was said throughout Europe when news of the Battle of Lepanto and Vienna were afoot. What do you know of the Rosary other than your slander? If not for Catholics praying the Rosary and giving the brave soldiers strength of conviction, you would be sniffing a carpet five times a day. Apart from Protestant rapprochement with the Turks, Protestants preferred the Turks than to Catholics.

Infant baptism in scripture: St Peter said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). But he did not restrict this teaching to adults.

He added, “For the promise is to YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him” (2:39) [Capitalization mine].

We also read: “Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name” (Acts 22:16). These commands are universal, not restricted to adults. Further, these commands make clear the necessary connection between baptism and salvation, a connection explicitly stated in 1 Peter 3:21: “Baptism . . . now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

In the Middle Ages, some groups developed that rejected infant baptism, e.g., the Waldenses and Catharists. Later, the Anabaptists (“re-baptizers”) echoed them, claiming that infants are incapable of being baptized validly. But the historic Christian Church has always held that Christ’s law applies to infants as well as adults, for Jesus said that no one can enter heaven unless he has been born again of water and the Holy Spirit (John 3:5). His words can be taken to apply to anyone capable of belonging to his kingdom. He asserted such even for children: “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:14). So what are you? Waldens? Cathar? Anabaptist?

More detail is given in Luke’s account of this event, which reads: “Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God’” (Luke 18:15–16).

Who do you follow? John Smyth, Martin Luther and every other Protestant denomination that protests against infants being baptized. Why do you want to deny infants from being part of Christ’s family? Do you really follow Jesus Christ?

    [Paying Penance for sin]

No Catholic prays to the Saints..they are not dead. Do you have dead relatives? Do you believe they are looking down on you? So your dead relatives are looking down on you but Saints that lived holy lives are dead and we cannot ask them to pray for us? Go find out what is Latria and Dulia and Hyperdulia.

I bet your pastors never taught you this. The ancient Church for 1500 years prior to the Protestant heresy knew this and followed strictly, it’s only the new fangled Protestants that care not to find out and worse still slander what they don’t know. Even the Early Church fathers explained coherently what this all means, you have not heard of the Early Church Fathers? Oh wait! Call no man father! Isn’t it? That’s the best ruse your charlatan pastors use to prevent you from reading the Early Church Fathers and the ante-Nicene Fathers.

I hope you do not ask your pastor to pray for you…or when your pastor says to pray for him, you must shout out, 1 Tim 2:5! For there is only one God and one Mediator…..!!

[Sainthood after one dies] Why do you have to lie? Or worse show utter ignorance regarding this? Did you just shoot off from the top of your head what you object to or just that your pastor and your Wednesday night meeting talk about these things? At least be intellectually honest and go find out what these things mean..there is no excuse for ignorance given this day and age of information technology.

The ONLY place where the Holy Spirit dwells is in the LORD’s Church… that is why the Catholic Church was inspired to bring forth teh Holy Bible in its entirety….that church will always and forver be the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH, from the time the LORD established His Church up to this very day. Unless of course you are going to say the LORD is lying when He said that Hell shall not prevail over His Church.

  • I will follow the wisdom of the Church council instead revisionist history, thank you.
