A man in Canada frequently smoked marijuana before hearing voices ordering to murder a Christian woman. When he found the Christian woman, Yvonne Brooks, he told her that he was thirsty. Yvone, an elderly woman always willing to be charitable to others, offered him a glass of water, when suddenly the demon possessed man grabbed her neck and started choking her; he then picked up a rock and beat her to death. This very disturbing and sad story was explained in a recent report:
For years Richard Dowdell, suffered from depression and bouts of violence against his wife and kids.
But doctors never suspected he would hear the whispers of angels telling him to murder a helpless elderly lady by hitting her in the head with a rock.
“My hands just went out – I don’t know why – I just had to kill her,” he said in the police interview room as he crumbled to his knees hours after the murder. He told police angels and sometimes the devil whispered to him.
“Your will is done now father. Forgive me God, don’t send me to hell.”
On Tuesday in Barrie, Dowdell, 56, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of Yvonne (Bonnie) Brooks, 81, May 30, 2014 at her Sandycove Acres home in Innisfil.
“She was a vulnerable woman engaged in an act of kindness,” said Justice Michelle Fuerst in sentencing.
Psychiatric reports state Dowdell was likely experiencing psychosis and loss of contact with reality at the time of the killing. The report states the psychosis could have been drug-induced from cannabis or hash, which he admits to smoking daily.
“It concerns me that Mr. Dowdell lacks insight into the negative affects of his cannabis use,” said the judge.
Dowdell was living on long-term disability because of his depression and would cut grass for extra cash in the close-knit retirement village.
He told his unsuspecting victim, a widow who enjoyed line dancing and was active with her family and church, that he was thirsty so she invited him in for a glass of water. As the kindly grandmother handed him the glass, Dowdell reached out and put his hands around her neck and choked her.
“But she just wouldn’t die,” he told police. So he grabbed an ornamental rock from a shelf and hit her in the head. He wiped his bloodied hands on a dish towel, then sat in a chair and called 911 as she lay dead on the floor.
“Viewing the photos of her injuries, it is not hard to imagine that she suffered,” said Crown attorney Mary Ann Alexander.
“The world is a less beautiful place without her in it,” said a grieving family member.
After Dowdell was taken away in handcuffs, family members silently left the court and huddled together under umbrellas as they walked away in the rain.
It was known for years that this piece of subhuman demonic trash was violent and murderous, and yet society tolerates these evil doers? Why? Why not purge the society of them before they commit their evils? Now a woman is murdered, and no one can bring her back. Yes, the evil doer is behind bars, but why is he put behind bars only after he commits his crime? Crimes should be prevented, not allowed to happen only for innocent blood to be spilt.
