Spain will be one of the nations that will be chosen by God to defeat the Antichrist. For centuries God has used Spain to fight against numerous evils: the paganism of the Aztecs and the Muslims, and let us not forget that the longest war in history was in Spain. It was called the Reconquista, it lasted almost 800 years and it was fought between Spanish Christians and Muslims.
The nation of Spain is a holy land, sanctified by the presence of the Apostles; consecrated by the blood of martyrs; glorified through the exertions of many Christian warriors, by whose hand God did many wondrous works. It is truly one of the flowers of Christendom, and when its seed was nurtured by the watering of the Apostles, it began to sprout, and slowly did it grow, and by the labors of many righteous saints, and through so many martyrdoms, soon did it bloom with its pedals outspread, and shine with its bright colors before a dismal and dark world.
St. Paul wrote to the Romans, “whenever I journey to Spain, I shall come to you.” (Romans 15:24) And in the same epistle he wrote: “Therefore, when I have performed this and have sealed to them this fruit, I shall go by way of you to Spain.” (Romans 15:28) St. Paul, a pillar of the Church, expressed his desire to reach the land when it was plunged into the darkness of paganism. But, never being able to visit Spain personally, both Peter and Paul sent seven bishops to Spain, as we learn from St. Gregory, and from there the country had its first church. (See St. Gregory VII, b. 1, 64, p. 93)
The Church of Spain would eventually grow and cultivate Spain into becoming the flower of Christendom. It fought and defeated the Muslims, and led the glorious Battle of Lepanto, in which thousands of Spanish warriors defeated the Antichrist empire of the Ottoman Turks, and it will again be used to defeat the revived Ottoman Empire.
I had the privilege of visiting Spain early this month, and gave a speech as to the divine destiny of Spain in the End Times. Here is the speech:
