A Muslim terrorist in Turkey, dressed up as Santa Claus, shot and murdered thirty five people. According to one report:

A gunman has reportedly opened fire inside a nightclub in Istanbul during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

At least 35 people have been killed and another at least 40 people have been injured in the attack, according to the Istanbul governor.

Large numbers of police and paramedics were sent to the well-known Reina bar in the Ortaköy district, CNN Turk reported.

“Many” people were injured, according to Turkey’s NTV, with at least six ambulances transferring them to hospital for treatment. As many as 600 people are thought to have been in the club when attackers entered it, not longer after midnight.

Two armed men were involved in the attack, reported NTV, and an operation is ongoing to capture an assailant who is still inside the club. Those men may have been dressed in “Santa costumes”, eyewitnesses told CNN Turk.

There was no immediate confirmation of casualties from police.

Reina is a large and well-known club in the middle of Istanbul.

Much of Turkey had been subject to increased security measures on New Year’s Eve, after a year that has seen deadly attacks by Isis and Kurish extremist groups.

This has got to be the weirdest thing I’ve seen a Muslim do. First he dresses as a Christian saint, then goes and kills a bunch of Muslims at a new years eve party (not Christmas party). I don’t think this means what he thinks it means.

    • OrthodoxChristianAmerican

Not to belabor the point, but ‘Santa Claus’ is more like a pagan god, an invention of 19th century advertising, than the real and glorious St. Nicholas of Myra, in what is now Turkey ironically. And, we’re right between the Gregorian Calendar Christmas and the Orthodox Julian Calendar Christmas presently (western January 7th, but to us, still December 25th).

This Muslim attacked our whole un-Islamic civilization in one symbolic blow.

The real St Nicholas punched out the evil heretic Arius in Nicea while the heretic was singing a blasphemous ditty, and I seriously doubt he would be welcome in most Protestant churches…

        • OrthodoxChristianAmerican

You’re right about that! Happy New Year!

2017…. Now I feel like the 20th century is finally over so to speak, in a historical sense. Protestantism is on it’s way out, it’s followers will either fall into the new Paganism or more extreme heresies like Islam or the Noahide movement.

I believe you are right OC. Times are indeed changing…Happy New Year!!

          • OrthodoxChristianAmerican

Happy New Year 2017 to you and to all here!

          • David W

Happy New Year to you too.

      • Ceirwyn

Yeah, but it doesn’t change the fact that modern Santa is based on a saint. Not something I think Muslims would approve of imitating in any fashion.

      • Nan

I think of Santa Claus as the modern day patron saint of retail since he’s a construct of Coca Cola advertising. Prior, St. Nicholas wore a lot of brown fur to keep warm.

A rocky start already to ring in the New Year.

    • Grandmere

Erdogon will blame it on the Kurds, as usual.

      • Kamau41

        Yep! No doubt he will.

      • Nan

Curds and whey? Lemon curd? What?

        • Grandmere
          • Nan

Yes. Yes I am. An acquaintance married Kurd and brought him here with her. He was from a family with 8 kids, raised in a 2-room house and thought 1-bedroom walkup apartment for only the two of them, with electricity and plumbing was living in the lap of luxury.

          • Grandmere

Devon cream. I’m wiping a little drool off my chin as I type. Fond memories of the lake district.

          • Nan

A friend and I went to a high tea at a British style pub here in Dec. I went to look for clotted cream and all they had was Devon; I know it’s the same thing so bought that and lemon curd to eat with scones at home.

  • Tom_mcewen

Yes, not the Coca-Cola Santa Claus. In fact an important Saint in history.

  • Grandmere

    St. Nicholas.

    • OrthodoxChristianAmerican

      Bless you Grandmere:-)!

      • Grandmere

Happy New Year! I was going to say that he punched out Arius but someone beat me to it. I wish they would read some Church history.

  • AnthonyM

Sad way to begin the New Year.
“But he who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death.”

Happy New Year 2017 to you and to all here!

  • Darren Neufeldt

Well, I think I found the answer as to why it was attacked. According to The Guardian the venue served the elite Secular crowd.

“Open since 2002, the venue on the banks of the Bosphorus has earned a
reputation as the place to be seen among Turkey’s young, secular elite
who recline on its white banquettes and are served ice buckets of drinks
    by aproned waiters.”

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/01/istanbul-terror-attack-reina-nightclub

As we know, the secular are according to Erdogan, nothing but in the way.

As to why “Santa Claus”? I think that has been answered above.

Happy New Year Everyone, and may God Bless you all in 2017.

I have to wonder how many of the recent attacks in Turkey have been orchestrated by Erdogan in order to increase his future powers.

Cough cough – not everybody that ‘accepts Jesus’ goes to heaven – many will go to hell –

    • Kamau41

SNAP!!!!! Hope you and your family have a very blessed New Year.

      • Julie LaBrecque

Same to you Kamau – thanks for all the rowing – hope you enjoy a great New year.

  • Kamau41

“Every person who accepts Jesus becomes a saint and that’s in the Bible not church history.” Really??
Here are Jesus’s words that debunks everything you said:
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are MANY who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are FEW who find it.”(Matt 7:13-15).

  • Grandmere

So you knew about the Council and the incident with Arias? Then you know that it was not a man made story.

    • Nan

Maybe he’s talking about his reputation for bringing murdered boys back to life or saving young women from prostitution by throwing gold down the chimney, which landed in stockings drying by the fire, providing dowries to these poor women.

  • Nan

Saint Nicholas is the 3rd Century Bishop of Myra. Patron saint of sailors, pawnbrokers and children.

  • Nan

    People don’t worship Santa Claus.

  • Julie LaBrecque

Red letter portion not too important to you? Jesus said whose sins you don’t forgive are not forgiven – so – when was the last time you confessed to an apostolic man?

    • Tom_mcewen

Verseology is the answer to every question, how did the entire Roman empire both east and west become Christian without verseology. It is amazing, just not as amazing that they think the Bible is in English.
