The Government Of Turkey Declares: “Hagia Sophia has been conquered and belongs to Turkey.”

By Theodore Shoebat

In sparking tensions further with Greece, the government of Turkey just recently declared: “Hagia Sophia has been conquered and belongs to Turkey.” The Hagia Sofia is the most prized church in the Eastern Orthodox world, and one of the most central ecclesiastical monuments in Christianity’s history. Orthodox Christians see the Hagia Sofia as still a church, where currently it is technically an historical monument. But, Turkey wants to make it into an official mosque again. By Turkey making the Hagia Sofia into a mosque again, they will further exasperate Turkish-Greek tensions which are eventually going to implode into violence. As we read in a report from TVXS:

The barrage of propaganda rhetoric by Turkey continues, with the country’s Foreign Minister Mevlτt Çavuşoλουlu declaring that “Hagia Sophia has been conquered and belongs to Turkey.”

He characteristically stated that “Hagia Sophia is the property of the Turkish Republic,” the Turkish minister said, adding: “It has been conquered.”

In fact, he argued that Greece has no reason to talk about the Hagia Sophia and what Turkey will do with its territory.
