Another Muslim in America, this time in Chicago, snapped and wanted to join. Thankfully he was arrested by the FBI at O’Hare Airport. Before joining he said, “We are the lions of War”.
Among the “many reasons he’s going to Syria,” Khan said in the letter, was his refusal to pay taxes that fund the killing of his “Muslim brothers and sisters.” He also wrote that he was fed up with the randy ways of the West. “We are all witness that the western societies are getting more immoral day by day.”
“I extend an invitation to my family to join me in the Islamic State,” Khan wrote.
In recent months, Khan was posting images and ideas on his Facebook page that reveal his radicalization. Vocativ was able to take a screen grab of his Facebook page before it was taken down on Monday afternoon. His last post was on Oct. 1, featuring the 19-year-old’s updated profile picture: a newly bearded Khan in a selfie with a pack of lions running in the foreground.
On the page are quotes like “a single tear shed for the fear of Allah is enough to extinguish the fires of Hell,” along with videos about Chicago gangs.
The judge ordered that Khan be held at least until his detention hearing Oct. 9.
After arresting Khan, agents searched his home, and the complaint states they found handwrittern documents there that appeared to be drafted by Khan expressing support for ISIS.
They also found a letter Khan had left for his parents explaining that now that ISIS has established a self-proclaimed caliphate, there is an obligation to migrate to their territory. The letter said that he is upset with the immoral decline of Western societies and invited his family to join him. He urged them not to tell authorities about his journey.
The notebook indicated Khan wanted to travel to the Syrian border.
“We are the lions of War,” Khan wrote. “My nation, the dawn has emerged.”
